    Not Good!!

    Provided by

NOT GOOD! There are 200 other taco places that are better than this place. Very bland! VERY VERY oilly!! My barbacoa taco had a steady stream of oil leaking out of it, all I could taste was oil it was disgusting. We have eaten at a hundred taco places around texas and this was the worst. Everything is very heavy handed. Gordita bread is so heavy and dense. Just very bland, oily, and heavy. Had a lot of promise - but failed miserably, ok atmosphere - kinda loud though and crowded. Also expensive considering other taco places that are better. Will not be going back. Do not recommend

    Another one bites the dust!

In Austin it's sad to see a place that you love go downhill on the quality of thier food when they expand. I lived down the street from this restaurant and went there every Sunday. The last two times my husband and I went was heartbreaking. The Carne Guisda was tough and was without any sauce. The migas were over cooked and bland. My tacos were horribly bland and very unsatisfying. I'm beyond bummed out but hoping they just hired a new cook in the last couple of months.

    Cool Atmosphere - Disappointing Food

    Provided by

I stopped in for a quick lunch on a Thursday afternoon. It has a really nice looking patio for live music, but no one was out there since it was so hot. Inside, really cool, hip decor. I was expecting a great lunch! But then my food came. The ""El Pastor"" taco was OK (pork), but somewhat bland. The Carne Guisada taco was overcooked and had too much raw onion on it. The food was edible, but I wouldn't say it was enjoyable. I'm sure on a cooler day, it would be a great spot to toss back a couple cold beers and listen to live music. But don't come here if you're looking for a good meal.

    Fun atmosphere, below average food.

    Provided by

I recently moved to South Austin from Atlanta and drove by this place many times. It looked fun and saw the parking lot over crowded during the weekday which tells me that the food is cheap and good. The place is fun and easy but the food is cheap (in value) and cheap (in quality). Oh well, there seems to be a million other taco places to try!

Would vote 4 stars for atmosphere, only 3 for food..

What a fun place... took the fam here for breakfast tacos on a Sunday. Live folky band was strange to be at a mexican restaurant but they were really fun. We waited a really long time for our food after waiting in line to order (which actually goes quickly). They messed up our order but it wasn't a big deal since you expect that on a busy day. But the food itself just wasn't that tasty. We ordered a variety of tacos and they were under seasoned. Fajita taco was terrible, dry and no taste without peppers. After adding sauces we could Dr them up fine but should you have to?\r \r Would come back and try lunch or dinner... people are so nice in there and the entertainment was nothing short of amusing.

Terrible food. Below Average Maxican food

    Provided by

I went there for lunch on Saturday. There was a long line. Expected great food because of publicity. We ordered 4 different tacos, Barbacoa, Picadillo, Al Pastor and Pollo Guisada. Some of them were ordered with rice and beans. Barbacoa wasn't even near authentic Mexican barbacoa. It still had raw beef smell. I barely touched the dish. Picadillo was total mess. It was dripping waterly juice and had no taste at all. Al Pastor was ok. That was the only dish we finished. Pollo Guisada was barely ok. The beans and rice was just like the ones you can get from any fast food mexican restaurant. I went to this place 5 years ago and felt just ok at the time. But this time it's a no-no. I was upset to have spent $22 for this. I would consider this place even below Taco Bell.

    Good food, fun atmosphere

    Provided by

Seems like people either love the food here or hate it. While I agree that equal or better food can be found (example: Taqueria Arandas), it is going way too far to say the food at Taco Xpress is bad. The food is clearly made from scratch and with great care. I thought some of the items could use a little more salt, but that's a very subjective judgement.\r \r Also, if you're in the mood for it, the atmosphere is fun. Bottom line, the food is good, reasonably priced, and it is a fun place to hang out.

Best breakfast taco's anywhere and the McMercy Family Band is amazing !!

I go to Maria's Taco Xpress every Sunday when I visit Austin. The very best breakfast taco's and the Gospel Brunch with the McMercy Family Band makes all worth the trip. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and a great band...

    Terrible food!

WOW! I was so disappointed. Taco Bell is even better than this place. I had the 3 tacos and the meat in them is one step above cat food! TERRIBLE!

    Awful, Awful, Awful

    Provided by

Being a huge breakfast taco lover and trying them everywhere in Austin and El Paso, I ventured to Taco Xpress after being told they were so good. They were TERRIBLE! No taste whatsoever! I ate one out of the three I ordered and left...and that's after waiting 25 minutes for them to come out! My girlfriend's migas were soggy and tasteless as well, and she's from El Paso and knows good Mexican food.\r \r Save your money and get much better breakfast tacos at Rudy's. You'll thank me.

    Good Stuff

It's funny, some people call this place trendy.. I would say alot of people go there because they have good food and it's fast. There are lots of good Taco places in town.. this is one of the best..

    best breakfast tacos in Austin

    Provided by

I haven't tried much of the menu other than the breakfast tacos, but they are truly wonderful. The smell of the restaurant stays on you, so don't stop by before work, or you'll make your co-workers angry (that you didn't bring any for them). Service is suprisingly quick too!

    Tacos, tacos, tacos!

    Provided by

Delicious, filling breakfast tacos. (Remember, these are the real Mexican ones served on soft flour or corn tortillas, if you are looking for a crunchy shell please go to Taco Bell because that is not Mexican!) It's a casual place too, so put your order in with Maria at the register, pay up, then wait for your number to be called. Once you get your order, slather on some of the yummy, authentic homemade salsas. A bottled beer or soda, and a sunny seat outside make it perfect.

A GREAT WAY TO START THE DAY

    Provided by

I HAD HEARD A LOT AND BEEN TOLD TO MAKE SURE I WENT TO TACO XPRESS WHILE IN AUSTIN. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL. THE BREAKFAST TACOS ARE EXCELLENT. I THINK IT WAS THE BEST BREAKFAST I HAD WILL IN TEXAS. I MADE SEVERAL TRIPS THE WEEK I WAS THERE. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PLACE. THEY SAY A GOOD SIGN OF A GOOD PLACE TO EAT IS WEATHER THE PARKING LOT IS FULL, AND YES IT IS. A GREAT PLACE TO START THE DAY.

    HEAVEN IN SOUTH AUSTIN

    Provided by

All Hail the TACO QUEEN!! South Austin humbly awaits your next divine creation,oh gracious queen. The Tacos Pastor are truly inspired and excell in a city full of excellent Hispanic varieties of food from all over the world. We fall to your feet and beg merciliously for salsa de loca Maria. Oh thank heaven.

    ok but would not recommend

    Provided by

the food here has no flavor. The beans and rice seemed to be taken out of a can and to top it off, my crispy tack fell apart. How are you going to make a taco that falls apart entirely while you are eating? The meat was very low quality and seemed like something was shredded off the cheapest part of a cow or other animal?!? Maybe for the hangover crowd it's cool, but for a sober person, Taco Bell may be better. I said may be better!!

Best tacos in town. Don't get disencouraged by the long lines, these guys are pretty fast. I also love the music, it brings back so many memories!! They play Timbiriche!

    yum for my tum

They have the best bean and cheese tacos in town! It is definately worth the trip if you don't live south. If it is a weekend morning call ahead to avoid a long line.

    Over-rated

    Provided by

This place is just a trendy taco cabana. I cant believe it was rated so high. I was very dissapointed. Poor Parking (but i guess thats typical austin) and really poor food. The fajita meat plate i ordered was about 10% meat. The meat was not even high quality, it was shredded low quality meat.
