I am a frequent guest at Red's Porch and there are many reasons for this. <br> <br>First of all, I LOVE bringing my dog! It is extremely dog friendly and since there are two patios there are never too many dogs in one area, plus a million places to sit inside and outside (upstairs) for people who would rather not be around the pups. <br> <br>The beer and drink selection is outstanding! You can get all sorts of beers here, local and exotic (plus the typical light beers depending on what kind of night you want it to be). Plus they have a large mixed drink menu with, again, the typical and more adventurous options. I often just come to drink a beer or two with a friend because the environment is and wait staff are very laid back and comfortable. <br> <br>Now, I will stop soon but I have to mention the food! With a menu with such variety you half expect the food to only be so-so because how can you be good at everything? Well this locally owned restaurant nails it! They have many organic options and delicious combinations of it all. PLUS their brunch is awesome!

Most people would consider it a good thing that I live within walking distance of a place like Red's Porch. I disagree. The fact that I'm borderline obsessed with their chicken sandwich, ""THE BIRD PULLER"", makes my proximity to the restaurant hazardous to my wallet. <br> <br>I've been going to Red's for over a year now, since it opened, and I can NOT get enough of the food. I dream about the french fries... I do. <br> <br>During the spring and fall, there's nothing like getting a beer or marg, chips and queso... and watching the sun set from the GORGEOUS western view Red's has. Shocking that such a breathtaking place is hidden behind a few buildings off of S. Lamar. <br> <br>My only con is that it's sometimes drafty upstairs in the porch area during the winter. If it's crowded and there's no place else to sit, you better have your winter jacket with you if you're not hugging a heat lamp. <br> <br>OVERALL - I

We checked Red's Porch after a recommendation from our daughter's boyfriend. Menu was a little slim on selections, but pretty tasty, The server was terrific. She brought our drinks quickly, knew availability of a substitute right away, checked on us regularly and promptly brought out an unusual condiment that my husband requested. I had had such a horrible dining experience at another restaurant recently that I was thrilled with the service. Thanks Kendra for a pleasant Friday evening. .

My friends and I went to Red's for happy hour recently. The drinks were pretty cheap, atmosphere was good, and the view was fabulous from the rooftop- although I recommend sunglasses before sundown. The food was average in my opinion, but they have games and a live band some nights... definitely worth a shot!

The chicken fried ribeye is absolutely awesome! Ive never even seen a chicken fried ribeye before! Its tender and delicious, topped with bacon gravy and smashed potatoes and your choice of one other side, (try the creamed spinach, its fresh spinach leaves) . The waitress described their food as a gourmet twist on southern cooking and I would agree.. She explained that all there food was fresh and never frozen. I really enjoyed it. Also they have a large selection of beers on tap, and 3 bars.. I havent made it to the upstairs bar yet, but it sounds like people are habing fun up there!

I went for lunch yesterday because of all the hype about it and was extremely disappoined with the food. \r <br>\r <br>The pulled pork tacos were tasteless and the tortillas were dry from being left out in the open. My friend had the fish tacos and had the same opinion, tasteless. He said the fish tasted frozen. Then there is the high prices they are charging for this so called food. 2 tacos, beans, rice for around $ 8.95. Really high for such awful tasting food. \r <br>\r <br>The one good thing this place has going for it is the view, nothing else. \r <br>\r <br>Stay away from this place it's a ripoff!!!!

Update 2/14/10 12:30\r <br>My friends and I went back after seeing the menu last week. We arrived at 12:30 and had room to park. We got a great table looking out at the Greenbelt. It was a beautiful day and a good call.\r <br>\r <br>The food is just as good as it is described. We shared some chips and salsa and an order of Goat Cheese Jalapeno Poppers. It's nice to see care given to such a common appetizer: freshly made and good ingredients. Someone cares about the food and it shows. The jalapenos are stuffed with goat cheese, bacon, garlic and thyme; fried and then battered and fried again. Crispy and flaky. i couldn't taste any garlic or bacon but they were still very good.\r <br>\r <br>We all got burgers. Two Old Reliables and a Smokey Goat. I had the Goat and it was good but there was too much of the goat cheese over powering it. I think the beef could have been seasoned a little more for taste. It also comes dressed with smoky bacon and fried onion strings on the burger. It's a good burger by itself with the jalapeno bun I chose but maybe with less of the grilled onions and goat cheese it could be balanced better for flavor. I heard no complaints about the other burgers. The fries were tasty too! Fresh oil in the fryer is evident and good ingredients are recognizable on the plates.\r <br>\r <br>We again had great service and I am glad to have such a cool hang so close to my house in S. Austin.\r <br>\r <br>Previously:\r <br>We got here on a Saturday afternoon (2.6.10) and it was packed at 4:00pm. We finally found a spot to park and I think that will deter people from going or people with try but end up leaving.\r <br>\r <br>We came to check it out and we had already eaten so I can't review the food. This place seems well thought out so I am surprised by the lack of seating/leaning at the front facing the Greenbelt. That seemed obvious to me but as full as the parking lot and bar was I don't know where these people would come from or park.\r <br>\r <br>We sat upstairs at the bar hoping to score a different seat facing the Greenbelt but people were camped out. We never had an opportunity and after two beers at the bar with my back to the beauty of the Greenbelt we left. I don't mind sitting at a bar but with it being such a great day outside I didn't like wasting sunlight and we went somewhere else.\r <br>\r <br>Our bartenders were nice and were quick to give us a sample of something you haven't had before. I have friends that love this place and I would like to go back and try out the food. Most of the people there were eating. \r

I tried to have dinner at Red's Porch on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. It was my fourth visit to the place. When I came in at about 10:30 no one was at the host station. I waited a few minutes and then finally asked the bartender, who was the only waitstaff within sight, if they were still open and selling food. She told me to come in and grab my own menu from the host station, which I did. I asked her if I could just grab a table somewhere and she said yes. When no waiter appeared after I had perused the menu, I returned to the bar and ordered through the same bartender. There was one other couple eating dinner in the section where I was seated. Their waiter appeared about 20 minutes after I had seated myself. When he attended their table, he walked past me without saying anything. I stopped him and asked him what his name was--it was ""Dustin"". At that point he asked me if I needed anything, and having already ordered through the bartender, I said 'no'. Thirty minutes later he brought my food to the table and left. When I finished I paid the bartender and left her a good tip. I told her that if she hadn't helped me, I'd have gone hungry. \r <br>\r <br>This place has good food and I would say that it has horrible service. Except that tonight I had NO SERVICE WHATSOEVER. I left the bartender a 60% tip and I will never go back here again. Whoever owns this place should fire not Dustin, but the manager who is responsible for training the staff: service always trickles down from management. It's a pity when a place with good food can't sell it because of horrific service/management. If this place is still in business six months from now, I may go back and see for myself why. NO STARS FOR NO SERVICE WHATSOEVER--NONE.\r <br>\r <br>If you look at the bulk of the other reviews it's clear that this place has major service issues FOR WHICH MANAGEMENT IS RESPONSIBLE. Caveat emptor.
