Overcooked chicken, hot headed mgr. Going downhill fast...
NOT EVER GOING BACK in that place myself, and I don't recommend you go either. Management does not care about its loyal patrons and seems to not care about the consistency and quality of its food either. Stay far away! Better yet, go next door to Sazon. At least you will be spending your hard earned money in a place that will treat you with respect.
Kitchen Peeper Says Thumbs Up On Kitchen Cleanliness
I'm a restaurant kitchen spy. I don't accept that it's ok for restaurant kitchens to be messy. I find myself peeking into the kitchens of the restaurants I patronize and have without doubt, spared myself great gastronomical misery because of it. WIth La Feria, I must say, I did not find so much as a piece of a tortilla chip anywhere on the floor. I'm glad to report that they run a tight ship with their nice, clean kitchen. \r <br> HOWEVER, I'm not too keen on the way the baskets of tortilla chips are prefilled and stacked up to the ceiling filling a whole wall of shelves. Lots and lots of chips, FOOD THAT WE EAT, are left out in the open air (next to the kitchen door which is only steps from the building's entrance, which is very close to a exceedingly busy Lamar Boulevard) exposed to dust and particulates. For this I say tsk...tsk...tsk... \r <br> Foods should be sealed not only for freshness, but also for keeping free of pollutants. Even if chip basket turnover time is within a lunch hour, it's simply bad form. It doesn't look good to see nor is appetizing to think how the chips are kept. Taking a bit of time to fill the baskets as they are ordered can only be good business and will keep all of us confident in the care and quality of their food products.\r <br> I love their Broiled Chicken smothered in cheese, mushrooms and other veggies. The name of the dish escapes me, but it's about the best plate that I've found here that is absolutely scrumptious neary every time. \r <br> And, it's not loaded with mostly rice and beans, which is essentially trash food that I don't think is worth paying $8-9 a plate for. One of my pet peeves with Mexican dishes is the 3 oz of meat/cheese that comes with gobs n gobs of beans and rice. Mexican food is way overpriced in this town.\r
Our first visit yesterday was a very pleasant surprise--the $6.49 lunch menu, which includes iced tea with all options, was not your typical tacos or cheese enchiladas. I ordered the chicken enchilada with poblano sauce, and my companion ordered the spinach verde option, both were delicious! I appreciate a Mexican restaurant that provides a homemade salsa (theirs had chunks fresh onion and chopped cilantro), good 'corny' tortilla chips (not greasy), pleasant Mexican music playing (adds to the atmosphere), brewed iced tea, a pre-heated plate to keep the food warm, and a pleasant waitstaff. La Feria was on target with all of the above. My enchiladas were packed with shredded chicken, smothered with a intense green, creamy poblano sauce and topped with a little melted jack cheese, refried beans were good and the Spanish rice was average--all was served hot and prompt. The spinach enchildas were swimming in a nice verde sauce, and topped with cheese, accompanied with black beans and rice. I'm looking forward to returning soon!
My wife and I are regular saturday afternoon customers. We only discovered this restaurant a couple of months ago. I love the cheese enchiladas, they remind me of old Austin Mexican food circa 1960's, and my wife tries and, so far, likes every dish she has tasted. The frozen margaritas are well above average. Our service has been great, but we do not go during peak service hours. Definitely worth a try.
The food was okay, and that's all I can say. The service was the poorest service I've ever received at any restaurant.
<br>They added on a tip of $17.00. I don't mind paying for good food and good service but the servise was the worst service ever. The owner's daughter was very accommodating and removed the $17.00.
The first time I went I thought maybe they were just closing down and that's why the service was bad. NOPE. Second time I went, same thing. First off no one has the least interest in approaching you when you enter the door and there is no sign as to seating yourself or whatever. The waitress brought the wrong food out, I had to get silverware from another table to eat with myself. I had to nearly stand up and flag someone down for some more salsa and then get up and find someone other than my waitress (who replaced the first gentleman who actually had good manners!) for my check when I was ready. Then no one came around to ask me if I was ready to pay. I had to find someone to do this as well.\r <br>\r <br>HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! I WILL NOT GO HERE A 3RD TIME!!!!
This has been my favorite mexican restaurant since freshman year in college. The food is the best part, yummy, and they have a good festive atmosphere. The flautas are good and my friend likes the chicken/cheese chimichanga. People call me crazy but I like the food here better than Hula Hut or Chuy's or any of the other local favorites.
this place is CHEAP (for lunch) - and its lunch specials arent bad. This is not gourmet - its down and dirty tex-mex, but its not terrible. If you want something real good - go down the road to Polvo's - but pay more and wait a while. If they could only get a really good cook they would be doing alright.
