Reviews for a doctor can be difficult. Our life depends on them so we apply faith to complement our experience.

Dr. Richard Schram was with me for about 4 minutes. I had already had cortisone shot but I got another one which had no effect on my shoulder. This cost $822.00. On my second visit the time spent with the doctor was about one minute. I moved my arm 1 direction and an MRI were ordered.

After the MRI I had all results transferred to my PCP (primary care physician). When the PCP walked into my patient room he already had it all figured out. He had looked at the MRI. He told me what I had and what the options were. This cost $131.00 and he spent a lot of time with me taking care of other issues.

The charge for 7 physical therapy appointments was $3964.07. The exercise club membership is $30 per month and they have full swimming and hot top facilities.

I am disappointed. I think with the right supervision Dr. Schram might perform OK.

Overall

Highly recommend - the service and professionalism from Dr Schram and entire staff was exceptional. Knee pain turned out to be a torn meniscus. Surgery was Friday, walking on Saturday evening and actually played golf on the Tuesday. I consider him to be one of the best. Capable, competent, professional and would highly recommend.

Overall

I saw Dr. Schram about pain that radiated down one leg for about 10 years. He diagnosed it immediately as sciatica and referred me to a neurologist who confirmed the diagnosis as S-1 radiculopathy; and an MRI showed a bulging disc. Dr. Schram presented all the information clearly and suggested several options to relieve the pain. He strongly encouraged physical therapy first but also said I could benefit from short-term steroid therapy (Medrol doespak), a spinal injection, or as a last resort, surgery. I am an athlete and immediately jumped on his suggestion for physical therapy, without all the drugs and surgery. After 3 months, I am virtually cured - I am so appreciative that Dr. Schram did not tell me that drugs or surgery were my only solutions!! He tailored my treatment plan for me, knowing that I was willing to amend my lifestyle to get a result I could live with and that I did not require instant gratification. I was very impressed with his knowledge and extremely happy with my result.

The negative reviews about Dr. Schram are spot on. His arrogance is a defense mechanism because he is so insecure and intimidated by questions. The staff is trained to cover for him even if the have to lie. Really sad to see this in Austin. In all of my medical career I have never seen a doctor treat people so poorly. There are plenty of good orthos in Austin. Stay clear of this one.

The office environment was unfriendly and unaccommodating. When we asked for a wheelchair because I could not walk due to a tibal plateau fracture, they pushed one out to me and did not offer to help in any way get me in or out of it. The Doctor..Dr. Richard Schram should not be practicing medicine. Arrogant, condecending, uninformative and seeminly uneducated about my type of injury. I was in severe pain. He asked me to get up onto the table for observation and then asked my friend to help him get me onto the table. He took a quick look and said " well I could do surgery next Friday". He did not check for potential blood clotting, any other problems. He could not even verbalize my serious condition that was later analyzed by a professional real doctor as on a scale of 6, I was a 5. I had to have surgey immediately and was in the hospital 3 days. I would never recommend Dr. Schram or his incompetent unfriendly staff to anyone. He should be run out of Austin on a rail as far as I am concerned. Do not go to him! I recommend Austin Sports Medicine. Great doctors who are real and did'nt get their license out of a Cracker Jack Box.

Dr Schramm is impatient and doesn't really care about his patients and their needs. My doctor sent me to him for an evalutation. I waited 2 hrs to see him and then he didn't even listen to my concerns, he was in and out of the room within 1-2 mins. It was a waste of my time and money. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

Do not go to Schram

Dr. Schram is the most unprofessional and arrogant doctors I have ever encountered. He is intimidated by questions, and wants you to believe he is the doctor with all of the knowledge and power. He misdiagnosed my athlete and 2 months later when the injury had not healed he finally decided to do an MRI. Which then the injury was much more severe and he needed someone to blame because he couldn't be wrong. His arrogance and lack of bedside manner had my athlete in tears. I will never go back nor recommend him to anyone I know. And I would strongly encourage others to get a second opinion as Schram's arrogance clearly gets in the way of his medical knowledge.

Excellent

Dr. Schram treated me this last year for bilateral wrist fractures. Overall the experience was excellent. Dr. Schram explained all treatment to me at each phase and I found Dr. Schram very comforting and sympathetic to me. His staff was very friendly, efficient and the ultimate professionals. I wish more offices were like Dr. Schram's.
