absolutely the best Chinese food i ever had!

    Provided by

it gets crazy busy after six so a reservation would be helpful, very fast service of food so eat your courses quick, very helpful staff, we had two soups, sea weed and wonton, both had awesome flavor, for the beef lover like me try the orange beef, my wife loved the sea scallops and the singapore noodles, most authentic chinese food in town..

most authentic chinese food in austin

    Provided by

there are many things on the menu that most americans have never heard of. if you want something that is not on the very extensive menu, just ask, they will make it for you! for me, i LOVE the bbq pork and the bbq duck. these items have no equal anywhere in austin. maybe anywhere in the states! service can be slow otherwise it is a 5 start joint.

Terrible Customer Service AND Great Food All In One Place!!!

    Provided by

Great food...but gets crowded & loud at times. Lets not forget the extremely terrible & poor customer service. Beware of Chinese female waitress, the tall one. I don't know her name and don't care to learn it. She has a tendency to be inattentive to customers, rude and over bills customers...BUT!!! she enjoys giving herself a nice fat gratuity for parties of 5, of which I personally believe she NEVER EVER, EVER deserves. The sorriest part about the poor customer service is that it continues and the lack of ownership this restaurants owner/management neglects to take responsibility for & correct. I give them one star only because I don't have the option of giving them ZERO STARS. I've made up my mind to only order take out from on.

    Our Favorite Chinese Restaurant!

    Provided by

We have two favorite dishes that we ALWAYS enjoy. N8.Pan Fried Flat Noodle with Beef $7.95 and R5.Duck Meat Fried Rice $6.95....yummy! We are looking for a third to add to this list. So much to choose from, but these to simple dishes keep us coming back month after month and year after year. We also ALWAYS go next door to CoCos for an after Dinner smoothie desert!!

    Almost, Sometimes

I've had a love/hate relationship with Din Ho over the years. Their BBQ is so good and the rest of their dishes were decent, but their service was horrible. However, years ago, there wasn't any other place to go for decent Chinese BBQ, so I would take their abuse to get the Q. When the Asian center opened up on N. Lamar, I dumped Din Ho and started going up there for Chinese BBQ. Unfortunately, I wasn't the only one, and it got pretty crowded, and they'd consistently run out of ducks, or chickens, other tasty animals. After a few times of coming home empty handed, and hungry, I thought I'd give Din Ho another chance. To my surprise, the place wasn't like I remembered it. They were friendly, and they had all the deliciousness I could want. So I've been back with them for about a year. Unfortunately, my last few meals there have been super bland. The Q is still good, but all the other dishes I've had are lacking flavor. It's like Din Ho is making food for a retirement community. Looks like I'll be driving back up Lamar for a year or two.

My new favorite Chinese food place

    Provided by

If you haven't tried this resturaunt you are missing out on a great meal. Din Ho has a very wide variety of menu options and almost nothing was above 10 dollars. The food came out quick and piping hot without the saltiness of normal Chinese cuisine. Since there was so much food on the table, we had a sort of family style meal and still took home plenty of leftovers. Our party of three could have split one dish by itself. Everything on the table was delightful and full of flavor. Our waiter was inattentive and seemed to avoid us after we asked a few questions about the food; in fact, we never saw him again after he delivered our food. However, the rest of the staff was extremely polite and helpful throughout our meal. Best. Chinese. Food. Ever.

    Cheese Shrimp!

Food came out in less than 10 minutes, just as I expected from a Chinese restaurant. My friends and I go to this place monthly and it never gets old. We wish they did delivery.

    Best authentic Chinese in town

    Provided by

I am Chinese and searched forever to find good, authentic Chinese food when I got to Austin until I discovered them. Yes, the restaurant is dingy, but it's gotten a face lift lately and there have been efforts over the years to clean it up a bit. Yes, the wait can be a while and there is no comfortable waiting area, but the throngs of Chinese families eating happily there contributing to your wait - isn't that a good thing, really? So time your visit... if it's around lunch/dinnertime particularly on Fri or Sat, expect a 20-30 min wait. Yes, the service can be terrible depending on which server you have, but the food is usually brought out quickly (albeit usually not all at once). \r \r The true reason for visiting though is the food... Here are our top 10 dishes in no particular order (bear in mind we have 2 toddlers, so nothing too crazy made this list :))...\r - Won ton noodle soup\r - Snow pea leaves\r - Roast duck\r - Char siu/BBQ pork\r - Sizzling beef\r - Walnut shrimp\r - Sesame beef\r - Fried pork chop\r - Beef or combination fried flat noodle\r - Combination crispy noodle\r \r Save room if you can for the side benefit - dessert next door at Coco's :)

    Very bad service

    Provided by

I used to like this restaurant, but the customer service has gradually gotten worse over the years, and that's a make-or-break it deal for me. When dining in, the waiter pretty much ignores you until the food is ready to be served or it's time to collect the money.\r \r But taking out has been fine...until recently. My wife ordered snow pea leaves, combination fried rice, and sesame chicken. Because the foam boxes here are not very durable (they melt if you put something hot on it, which has happened in the past to us), we usually request a sheet of aluminum foil underneath the hot food inside the box and we have had no pushback on it. We simply do not like eating foam. Well, the manager of the store, who was the cashier, told my wife that there's nothing wrong with putting hot food on the foam and that my wife doesnt know anything and doesn't go to health class. My wife was obviously upset and left without buying the food. So much for customer service.\r \r I recommend going to great asian restaurants with better service like Sea Dragon or T&S. I know they do a better job of keeping the customer happy.

Authentic - good food, bad service

    Provided by

Take from someone who knows: this is the real deal. The menu has authentic Chinese food and authentic bad Chinese restaurant service. Most people expect good service at restaurants, but trust me, most good chinese restaurants have bad service. The food is most important and they know it. From the duck to the chinese bbq pork, it's definitely worth visiting. asianaustin dot com.

    Delicious!

    Provided by

I went to this restaurant for the first time this past Mon with a group of 4. We were seated and served very quickly. I am not an expert on real Chinese food, but I know quality, fresh food when I see it and this is it! My husband had the pork fried rice, which was fresh made with delicious bbq pork. It was not greasy at all. The same goes for the pork lo mien, which was my favorite. The pepper steak was tender and flavorful with plenty of fresh bell peppers and onions. The chicken and broccoli with crispy pan noodles came in a very mellow sauce, but still pretty good overall. The price was very reasonable. We'll definitely be back!

Pretty good Chinese food for Austin

They have an expansive menu with many authentic Chinese dishes as well as American-Chinese dishes. I personally really like the food, but I'm giving them 4 stars, because no one gets that unless they're perfect or just knock my socks off. The service is the typically bad service you find in Asian restaurants. Most of the them work on pooled tips, so they really don't care if you like them or if they're providing you good service.

Some dishes to try that I like there are the shrimp wonton soup which is very delicious in a rich broth. Also, they're probably only 1 of 2 or 3 places in town that serve the roasted duck and BBQ pork which I really love. You should also try the salty shrimp and shrimp in mayonnaise sauce with candied walnuts. I know they sound gross, but I guarantee you that they're absolutely delicious!

On weekends, be prepared for a very long wait. Most of the patrons are Chinese so that's a good cue that the place is good.

why do ppl make a big deal about service at an asian establishment? asian restaurants are not known for having excellent service. big deal. is it that much trouble to raise your hand to get a refill? if you dont like the service, then dont tip. STFU

    Worst Service in Town!

    Provided by

I've been there several times and their dishes are just OK(too salty and too sweet, so American-Chinese). We went there on a Sunday evening just because we live very close and thought it would be a quick dinner. But it was so crowded we had to wait for about 10 minutes for a table. Another 10 minutes after we sat down, no waiter or waitress showed up, I had to wave the menu to a couple of waiters passing by and obviously they saw it. Still, no one came to even just offer some water or drink. Some kids on the next table were jumping up and down, two guys are two other tables use their cameras with flashes. It was so annoying we had to leave the restaurant. I briefly talked to the girl at the front and said I thank her for leading us to the table, she seems to have no problem with customer leaving and didn't even say sorry. Sure your restaurant is popular and crowded today, but we are still customers!\r \r This is the worst experience I had in any restaurant in my whole life. I am Chinese and I love our food, but I would never go there to dine in again! Their BBQ to go is OK though.

    FABULOUS!!

the amount of choices are amazing & it's very authentic!

not your usual american chinese food...

the singapore style noodles are wonderful...

the best hot & sour soup around (be advised the soup is about $8, but it comes in one size, large)
