The staff were friendly and helpful, and I got the iMOVIE instructions I needed to make home DVDs from my child's life (I import from my mini dv). Domain is too chic for me, but I'm glad the Apple store is there since I love my 24"" iMac.

I had an appointment with a personal shopper at the Domain Store in Austin, Texas. I arrived late due to construction in the area and lack of parking. I went to the orange shirt and announced myself. He put my name on a list and after a wait (not unexpected as I was late), introduced me to my personal shopper. She disappeared and I sat on a stool to wait (4 weeks from total knee replacement surgery will make you more comfortable sitting.) Some one eventually showed up, then disappeared. Finally a young man showed up. The thought passed through my mind that he had lost the ""coin toss"" and would have to talk to the ""old lady."" It appeared to me that he did want to talk to someone not of the preferred demographics. I am 65, have gray hair, and move a little slowly due to the total knee replacement. I was unaware that these attributes were cause for discrimination. The young man offered no information, showed me only one type of Mac, and stood silently looking around the store. The only fact that he seemed to know was that the new Mac Book does not have a back lit keyboard. I went into the store expecting to learn about Macs, to be able to compare different capabilities and to make an informed decision. I had my checkbook and was ready to write a check and walk out happy. I had asked my friend to come along with me because she is thinking of a Mac. She said ""No, remember what you learn so I can make an informed decision.” Now, I can only tell her to avoid Mac stores as they are unusually unhelpful and a waste of time. You have lost one sale (mine) and perhaps two, as my friend may change her mind about buying an Apple, also.

The Domain shopping center is very ""chic"" so naturally there is a shiny new apple store. As a loyal fan of Apple I was excited to go into their newest store in Austin...Absolutely terrible. Cables everywhere, messy displays, a staff that knows absolutely nothing about their own products. I've had 3 friends encounter very rude genii (one actually laughed). My suggestion to you is to go to Apple Store in Barton Creek Mall, their staff is very nice and intelligent. If the insanely busy Apple Store on Fifth Avenue (The Cube) in New York can keep their store beautiful and filled with friendly, smart specialists why can't this small, low traffic store get it together? Shame on you Apple. This store will only disappoint you.
