Colonial Grand at Canyon Creek

I moved here May 2009 and loving it. After viewing over 14 apartment complex, CG was by far my first choice. I have lived in 4 other luxurious and no so luxurious communities. So, trust me I know about bratty staff and feeling lied to just to sign a contract. Normally, I d...moreon't write reviews but, I felt like checking out what people had to say about where I live and I felt it was only fair for me to write about my experiences at CG. First, I came on a Sunday, I drover around the complex as they do not have gates which I personally prefer no gates (since they can be a pain when they break , etc.) I found the construction and landscaping to be the most appealing, the buildings are not on top of each other so you don't feel like your neighbor across from you can see inside your apartment. The trees are so old that it gives a home feeling. The pool area is by far the nicest and largest pool in the area with a very comfortable BBQ area if you like to have a large group of friends for entertainment. The shaded area where the playground is located it's really spacious and far enough from where the cars drive by. The leasing office is beautiful!!! The young man who was there when I walked in without an appointment not only was very informative but, showed me four apartments. All four floor plans where really nice, I had a hard time making my mind up. When he told me that the cable was included, I was sold. One less bill to pay. Yay!!! Yes, you do not get all the extra channels but, I do get HBO and another cable channel. I used to think that my water bill was high but, after talking to other tenants mine is actually pretty decent even thought we wash clothes on a daily basics and cook daily. I live on the second floor on a 3/2 with Den, I keep my AC running on 68/70 constantly and my electric bill is a lot less than other smaller apartments I have lived in. I LOVE my apartment. The layout of the apartment it sure does make anyone feel at home living. I have vaulted ceilings, crown molding and my kitchen is just the perfect size even for someone like me that cooks daily. I did not have the need for a garage but, they are first come first serve so, if you need one, you need to sign up and be patience because they do come available. The leasing office staff is the BEST out of all the apartment complex I have lived in the Austin area. The leasing manager Cara is on top of things. I needed my battery replaced in my alarm and since my ceilings are so hight, she immediately arranged for the maintenance crew to come by and replace it. There isn't a time that I have walked in the office that she does not have a welcoming smile on her face and greets me with pleasure and professionalism. I have met a couple of wonderful girls at the office who got promoted into management positions but, the new girl Courtney is a great addition to the CG team. She is also very professional, sweet and helpful. From time to time I need to send a fax or receive a fax and before I ask for the favor she stretches her hand out and simply ask "are we faxing?". Honestly, I would not be writing any of it if I did not feel that it was fair. Colonial Grand at Canyon Creek is the BEST place to live because of the Manager, Leasing Agents, Maintenance Grew and most of all the apartments are truly the best for your money. You can go around and compare and you will see, I saved you time. If you rent here, you will meet me as everyone is very friendly at the pool. view less

A Texas Property Management
Keenan M. rated

I fell in love with my apartment from the moment I toured it. The rent was affordable for a very nice area. There were many fees and deposits involved which is pretty standard for private ownership. There was some miscommunication upon move in but the property manager worked...more it out with me and I was able to move in without a problem. They've been prompt on fixing things and payments were always easy to make. They only issue that I had with them up until this point is that I could hardly ever get any correspondence over the phone as they wouldn't answer or return calls. They've been easy to work with up until recently. I lost my job recently so I had to split my payments into two accounts. That was all the money that I had left. My first payment went through but their payment system wouldn't accept the second payment because a payment was already pending. I quickly submitted to the portal what was happening as this was the last day to pay rent on time. I get a response the next morning saying that there was nothing that could be done and to bring in the payment. I also see an additional $100 charge. I called who I was initially told was my property manager to get some answers as to why nothing could be done. It was the weekend so I assumed that she was gone for the holiday (Labor Day) because I hadn't heard back from her. I dropped off what I originally owed into the drop box as I was waiting for a response. The weekend passed and I see a $5 postage fee. I called as soon as they opened and I'm greeted by a lady who is unbeknownst to me my new property manager. I explain to her that if I had known that you couldn't make two payments I wouldn't have attempted to do so in the first place and put myself in this position. She says she understood but her hands were tied. There was nothing that she could do. She also informs me that there was a message sent into the portal responding to the phone call that I'd placed the previous Friday. The problem with that is is that they'd already locked me out of the portal for nonpayment. She says that she would remove the additional late fees and to just bring in the original $100 fee. I go to do that and once again I get an email instead of a phone call saying that she couldn't remove the fees. I also see a $116 charge for an eviction filing that had been done that morning after I got off of the phone with her. The bottom line here is that customer service/satisfaction doesn't seem to be of any importance to this company. If someone is calling you it isn't the best option to respond to them in an email as they aren't expecting it. As anyone can see from their responses to their negative reviews they are quite combative and defensive. Which I'm sure is an attempt to save face but there are ways to do that without calling out those who've paid they're bills and putting their personal business out into the Internet. I've also seen that a previous resident had this exact same issue a year ago. With that having happened one would think that the company would update their portal to let it be known the dos and don'ts of payment. Or at least not accept a payment that isn't for the full amount. I've never given this company any problems but they refuse to help me in this tough situation because as I was told \"they're hands are tied\" ATX Management seems to take the Rihanna approach of \"BBHMM\". The only reason there are 3 stars is because I can't do 2.5 view less

Nick Ulrich. is. the. man! Period. Seriously though, Nick from Apartment Experts has been nothing but a stalwart professional since our first encounter a little over a month ago. I will be going to UT for grad school in the fall, and I wanted to beat the summer rush to find ...morea decent place before they were all snapped up. I consider myself to be a fairly easy going person, but I was getting frustrated by Austin Craigslist ads. On a stroke of luck, one Friday night I struck up an email exchange with Nick via an Apartment Experts Craigslist posting. Nick, sensing my frustration, offered to have a phone conversation with me the very next day. While his demeanor is laid back, it was clear to me that he knows the landscape of rentals in Austin like the back of his hand. He quickly and adeptly made himself aware of my situation (why I was moving to Austin, how much I was hoping to spend, what kind of apartment I was looking for - I was looking for an apartment I could afford on a grad student budget, preferably with hard wood floors and on-site laundry, that was a shuttle ride from campus. He then sent me a follow-up email within 24 hours of our first conversation with three options of apartments he thought we be a good fit for me - for those of you not keeping track, it was a Sunday! Nick helped me to find a great apartment complex which I agreed had apartments with all of the things I asked for, in a great neighborhood. He then went out of his way to keep in touch with the apartment management to make sure I got the number 1 spot on the Wait List - which landed me the only efficiency up for grabs from the complex in August. He seemed to have a great working relationship with the apartment complex. Now, with the stress of finding a place off my shoulders, I can relax and enjoy my last summer of freedom. I recommend that anyone who is moving to Austin give Nick Ulrich a call. I'm really excited for my upcoming move, and you better bet I'm buying Nick a beer :-)view less
