Though Silk Road is closed permanently I had to comment on the prior, and only review that was here. Silk Road carried premium fabrics, mostly silk but also some fancy lawns and import Japanese cottons. As a fabric retailer myself I have to say that their prices were quite good. Fabric is generally priced at 2X - 3X over wholesale costs. This is a straightforward way for a merchant to include overhead like rent on a building, utilities, advertising, shipping costs, shortages in goods, website hosting, website devel; in short, a lot. I always found Silk Road to be very reasonable for the high quality goods they carried and miss them terribly. The expectation to find high quality fabrics at el cheapo JoAnn pricing in an independent shop is ridiculous. Cheap bargain hunting is why this lovely little shop is no longer with us and why the few other indie fabric shops in Austin have closed or are closing. If you want to support the crafting community in our town please buy local!

This is one of my favorite places to go get sushi. I actually like it better than going out for sushi at restaurants. It is quick, fresh, and I get it made exactly like I like it. I like the soy wrap with shrimp tempura, avocado, mandarins and tomago (sp?). Oh, and the mochi ice cream is so delicious! My husband, child and myself ate there this weekend for under $25 including drinks.
