The last time my wife and I ate here was in 2006. As a New Jersey born (City Slicker) we moved to Texas in 2004 in search for a better life. And during our journey we stumbled upon Manny Hattan's with an empty stomach and high hopes for some good food. We were not disappointed. As a matter of fact we loved the food and the atmosphere so much that we made it a road trip from our home in Killeen just to have lunch. I don't remember the food we ordered but I do recall the experience was well worth the ride. Since 2007, we have relocated back to the East Coast and to my surprise, I am saddened to learn that Manny Hattan's has closed. Even for the short few years we lived in Texas this establishment was and will always be the topic of our discussion when it comes to good food. Texas has really made an impression on this city boy!
Fairly new to the Drag, this small restaurant has two distinct cuisines: New Orleans and Gulf on the one hand, and Middle Eastern on the other. The brother and sister who own it are from New Orleans, and their mother, and sometime cook, is from Jordan. Either of the two food types is excellent, as is the service is cheerful and efficient. When you combine this with very reasonable prices, you have an unbeatable restaurant near campus. I have eaten there often, and have never had anything that was not delicious and fresh.
This food reminds me very much of what I was used to living in the Northeast. I use them for individual lunches, catering, and my wife cannot get enough of the pizza from the location near 4th St. After a night on the town I took friends to get a slice of the pizza for the ride home. They have not stopped talking about the pizza. The food is authentic and so are the people who run this deli. 5 stars all the way.
