I recently had the pleasure of dining with friends at Miller Union on a Saturday evening. This was Sat, Oct 30, the night before Halloween when it seemed that all of Atlanta was out-and-about. As we drove into the parking lot, I was grateful to see a valet on hand. A full parking lot is always a good sign at a restaurant, but the thought of negotiating the full lot to find a spot was overwhemling. We were seated immediately in a very cozy dining room just behind the bar. The wait staff was incredibly attentive (considering how busy the restaurant was) and knowlegable. Cocktails were ordered all-around. I have to suggest the cleverly named Miller Thyme cocktail, a gin drink with lemon and a thyme-infused simple syrup - very refreshing. I ordered a seasonal appetizer that was the special that evening, butternut squash with a roasted kale leaf and a shaving of parmesan on a slice of warm sourdough baguette. Unbelievable flavor combination. Of course I sampled everyone else's appetizer and highly recommend the farm egg in celery cream - amazingly rich and creamy. I chose the grilled GA mountain trout with creamed potatoes and a sprinkling of the most fantastic crumbled bacon that I have ever put in my mouth. The trout was very flavorful and beautifully cooked. I also tasted bites of my fellow diners' entrees including, the heritage pork chop and the griddled chicken. These dishes were also full of flavor and served alongside fresh, seasonal braised and roasted vegatables. The table shared 4 desserts: a plum crisp (just the right blend of sweet and tart combined with a crumbly topping), a gluten-free almond buckwheat cake (nice alternative), a terrific apple-pecan cake, and my personal favorite, a fudge brownie with homemade ice cream. Owners Chef Satterfield and Neal McCarthy took the time to stop by our table (and the tables of many other diners) to thank us for choosing Miller Union. Straightforward food prepared with an appreciation and respect for fresh, seasonal, high-quality ingredients. I cannot wait to go back.

I am all for giving second chances because hey who does everything right the first time around… I mean we are humans and we ALL make mistakes right? In life you learn that it doesn’t matter how you make the mistake, it’s what you do to fix it and more importantly that you learn to never make that same type of mistake twice. With that being said… Cinco Mexican Cantina has definitely learned that lesson 100 folds over! The first time I went to Cinco my experience was not so pleasant, and I did voice my opinion not expecting anything in return but WOW! Did that establishment prove me wrong! It all started when the CEO of FIVE Restaurant Group (owner of the Cinco Mexican Cantina restaurants) called me personally (yes little ol’ me) to apologize about my experience and invited me and my 30 guests back to the restaurant for dinner. When we arrived for the dinner party the customer service was outstanding! Our waiters- Tony and Levon treated us with 5-star service. Levon reviewed and explain in full detail about each item on the menu, I was totally impressed! Not only was I impressed but my guests were so happy. One guests said I feel like I am on the Food Network because the wait staff was there for our every need! How could I forget the food… very very very good! My food was excellent; I had the grilled salmon with a jalapeño potato cake and asparagus. This dinner was really for my guests because had it been just for me I would have never complained about the first dining experience, but my guests came to support me and I wanted to make sure they were happy and they were more than satisfied with our Re-do dinner yesterday! I learned a very important lesson- why not give a second chance? You never know, the second chance might be a lasting impression. I will remember Cinco Mexican Cantina as a restaurant with great service, suberb food, cool atmosphere and amazing customer service! You should definitely try it out; I promise you will not be disappointed. Muy Muy Bueno!
I would like to take this opportunity to express my satisfaction with Heritage Property Management. Since October of last year I have lived on beautiful little Lake Venesia just off of March Lane in Stockton. The condominiums around this little lake were built in 1984 and are as cute as bug’s ears. They are all due for a little TLC which Debbie Hamer and her staff at Heritage Property Management are attending to systematically. I love this little place. They just don’t build ’m like this any more folks. So far I have found Debbie and everyone at HPM just great to work with they have attended to repairs in a timely manner, with courtesy and professionalism. Living with a lake in your immediate back yard is awesome and I am spoiled for life. However when you live with such a great view it means you have no fences between properties to spoil that view it also means that certain accommodations and considerations need to be made with regard to your neighbors. People back east have been doing this for years (non fenced back yards). We all share this wonderful view with no boundaries but it requires a little extra effort not to infringe upon your neighbors privacy. The area bordering the lake and behind the condominiums is not public property and as a such it is not the appropriate place to pitch a tent or set up a bounce house castle (15’X15’X19’) squeezed between two trees and breaking their branches, there just isn’t the room for it. It is amazing to me that anyone would need to be told this.
