The Varsity DowntownAdd to mybook
I love the varsity it's real American food much only problem is because of so much Grease and slaw the buns are a little soggy but all in all great tasting food an it's fun to see that they are usually the same people who have been there 30 40 50 yearsLike this review?Yes|Flag Abuse
The burger I got had the texture and consistency of meatloaf and the bun was super thin. Hot dog I got was terrible. Overall my meal was pretty bad and the person I went with didn't like the food either.
Definitely DOES NOT live up the the hype and reputation. First visit will be my last.
To quote my girlfriend when we sat down: ""Ew. Let's leave."" \r
I admit at first, I was worried too. It smelled like Chinese food in this place - yes, Chinese food. The waitresses were eating their lunch at the front of the restaurant when we walked in. Without standing up, one of them smiled and pointed to a table at the back. \r
The restaurant was empty, despite a handmade sign that said: ""Line mo... view more
OK Here's the REAL deal about the Varsity!
The food probably won't fill you up. The burgers are very thin, the hot dogs are small, etc. The fries are often soggy & cold. But for some reason, it just tastes good. Don't go in expecting a meaty, juice burger.. go in expecting greasy, McDonald's-esque meal and you'll be satisfied.
The atmosphere is wonderful. If you come to Atlanta, you have to visit! I've been go... view more
You cannot be serious? I have frequented the varsity on occasion as hoping that the quality of the product would improve like better quality Dogs.\r
I suppose if you live in a closet, listen to city search ad hype. and have never visited Chicago or NY, or Even Liverpool NY (best dogs) You would not know what a great dog is. i guess one pays for the show.
I go every time I am in town. The food is actually quie bad. The famed hot dogs are just boiled hot dogs on a steamed soggy bun. Those who claim the food is good are delusional or have never eaten a decent hot dog. The atmosphere is what makes going to the varsity worth while. Just people watching is worth the price of the bad food.Like this review?Yes|Flag AbuseProvided by Citysearch
Ok, as a graduate of GT I know I'm biased, but I love the Varsity for what it is. Decent food with a charm and character that is unique in Atlanta. Don't expect anything gourmet here but the chili dogs are decent, the fries and rings are appropriately greasy, the fried pies are a treat and the FOs (frozen orange - think of an orange frosty) are yummy. We used to come here and sit in the car and we enjoyed every minut... view moreLike this review?Yes|Flag Abuse
