    Stay Away!

    Stay Away!!!!!!!

My husband and I went to this establishment last night for what was an extremely humiliating experience. The manager Darnell has a severe lack of customer service skills, and in no way made an attempt to rectify the complaint of cold fries and greasy wings. These items were unsatisfactory, and we were being forced to be satisfied with them. We were told that the only way we would get hot fries is if we PAID for another basket. We were also told by Darnell, that he didn't care how we felt, and if we didn't order something else, we HAD to pay for the unsatisfactory wings.

After explaining the frustration and confusion of the time spent waiting for him to arrive to the table, and attempting to explain what happened, Darnell asked us to leave if we were unhappy. I quote, "y'all can leave now, you look like you wanna leave." And to avoid confrontation and further embarrassment, this is what we did. He then proceeded out of the restaurant closing the door in my face and called the police and stated that we were "leaving out on the bill." I was completely confused and appalled! I didn't understand why he would portray that kind of scenario, as there should have been NO bill in the first place. We had only eaten four crab legs (out of 18), and 3 1/2 out of 12 wings out of our entrees, and was being told that we could leave if we were unhappy. The police requested that Darnell bring out my uneaten food as we obliged to pay. He returned with the receipt, but no food. The officer contacted his Lieutenant who arrived and also attempted to get my meal, and Darnell refused to bring out my food. We paid $60 only to leave and eat Wendy's for the night.

I have attempted to contact management this morning, only to be further mistreated by General Manager Dale Clark. After explaining how we were humiliated last night by what happened, he refused to apologize or address the matter in any decent form. He accused me of being confrontational as well as a liar, stating that he can see why the police were called. Never once did I raise my voice, or become irate neither in this establishment nor on the phone with Mr. Clark. There was surveillance available that can be reviewed to prove it. I had hoped for some for some kind of customer service from at least one of these Managers, but to no avail. This situation could have been diffused if our cold fries were simply replaced. Managers are not set in place to escalate these types of situations, but bring peace and quality service.

It appears to me that this is a company has gotten away with mistreating customers for far too long. Neither Mr. Clark, nor Darnell should have felt comfortable treating anyone in this manner. It seems that the regular caliber of customers has created the thought that everybody is attempting to get something for nothing, but this was not the case. I've been planning to visit Spondivits for some time now, and was aware of the prices. Never did I expect my experience to turn out this way. Both of these managers need to be trained in the areas of customer service and common decency.

Unless you want to be forced to pay for unsatisfactory food you are unhappy with, please DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!! Without the experience with the manager Darnell, this could have been a good night. One star because the drinks were good.

    I visited Spondivits on 12/31/2011 with…

I visited Spondivits on 12/31/2011 with my grandparents whom were visiting from out of town. We enjoyed our visit up until it was time to leave. We had a waitress named Sade who brought us our bill which at that moment included gratuity. My grandfather looked all the details of the bill over and then gave the bill and his credit card back to the waitress. When she bought back the copy of the receipt for us to sign my grandfather did so and we proceeded to leave. as we made our way outside Sade proceeded to chase us and asked if we had a problem with her service. We were perplexed because we had such a great experience and had left what we thought was included gratuity. We explained we had no complaints and she asked well why didn't we leave a tip. My grandfather explained as best he could that it was included in the bill. When we arrived home we realized that the signed copy of the bill did not include the tip as the initial bill had and it was only a suggested gratuity. While we felt bad at the same time we were disgusted that we had been chased from the restaurant and had people look at us as if we hadn't payed our bill at all. I have called Spondivits and spoke with the General Manager Dale whom had no sympathy nor remorse for the service and replied to the complaint stating "iTS A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD SHE HAS TO PAY TAXES ON HER TIPS AND AT LEAST YOU KNOW SHE HAD THE PLEASURE OF SERVING YOU!!"I have never been more insulted. I will never eat at this restaurant again. i advise you the same.

    HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

    Provided by

I've heard how good the food was at Spondivits, so I was very excited to walk in last Sunday evening. I saw there was a long wait for a table, so I told the hostess I would take a seat at the bar. As I approached the bar stool a gentleman (who had also been standing at the host/hostess stand) told me to take a seat on the other side. I walked over and sat down, this was at 7:02pm and I was never offered a menu. Ten minutes went by with no sever approaching the table, and still no menu. Five minutes later a server came to the table next to mine, took their drink order and walked away. Still nothing was said to me, and still no menu. After waiting five more minutes I walked back up front and asked to speak to the manager. I told Dale (the Manager) that I had been there for 20 minutes with no menu and no server. I explained to him why I sat at that table etc. His response to me was """" I don't know who sat you there, so there's nothing I can do about it"""". I looked at him in disbelief and told him that he didn't seem too concerned. There was only two people standing at the host/hostess stand when I came in, one was a man and the other was a woman. He shrugged his shoulders and said """"ok"""". After that I left. I don't care how good the food is supposed to be. This place has horrible customer service and management. I refuse to give them my hard earned money.

Love the food and this place

    Provided by

My first time going here was two years ago after a friend recommended it to me. This hands down is the best seafood place in GA. I always get their bucket of crab legs and it is so big that I always split it with my sister. They have some of the best Gumbo in town too and Gumbo is not easy to make. It's very lively in there and the customer service is always great. I go eat there a few times a year, mainly when I have friends or family in town because I know they will love the food. The buckets are the best b/c you can split them and you get a ton of food.

Hope this does not happen to you

I have never been there but they must have good food because someone stole my credit card and ate $132.20 worth of food at this place.

Overpriced with lack of quality, regardless of whatever it was in the past it is now awful.

    Provided by

Save your money, this place is worse than red lobster and costs more. I had fried seafood (the prices were high and I refused to pay $20 for food in what appeared to be a dive-bar). The oysters had shell pieces in some of them and grit sand on my teeth, this was beyond the usual amount you would expect, and the aftertaste on these oysters was awful. They also overcooked the seafood or it was of poor quality, can't tell which because both have the same lackluster end result. Slow service, cheap tables, bad seating, and horrible ambiance. The prices at this restaurant are those you would expect at a 3-4 star restaurant, but you get food that is a step above Long John Silver's (this is not hyperbole, it is what you actually get). They gave me a meager plastic bullet (container sauces come in, like pump it yourself take-out ketchup) that was half-full with tartar sauce, I asked for more and they charged for it. The french fries that can cost $1.50 extra for sandwiches (you get potato chips otherwise) are of the same quality you would get at Long John Silvers. I would never go here unless meals were priced at $5-$8 instead of $20 to $50. There are a lot of items on the menu that are over $20, and the items that are around $15 are uninspired overpriced versions of what you could get at another restaurant for $7-$8, so in my opinion add $7 to what something should cost and that is what is charged here. I read about this place on citysearch and decided to try it out, please take my advice and go somewhere else, if you do decide to eat here, please write your own review and warn others, they may not believe just me but if a few people consistently reveal the truth about this place, future travelers won't waste money and time here.

    Mahi Mahi was Great !!

    Provided by

This was my first time eating at Spondivits and the food was pretty good. I'm from South Florida so I know about great seafood. If you are looking for a place that looks good on the inside and not loud this is not the place for you. The food is good and the wait could be a while if its the weekend.

    Best seafood in Atlanta!

    Provided by

One word to describe this place- delicious. The food is so good its crazy. The wait was about 40 minutes but once seated the food was brought out promptly. It was extremley busy and the atmosphere is kind of ""backwoodish"" but that will be the last thing on your mind when you're scarfing on one of their delicious crab buckets. Try the place for yourself and you will be pleasently suprised! I'll def. be back!

    Dont waste your time

    Provided by

Me and a few of my friends decided to go out and have some good food and fun on 12/14/07.Ha this place was neither. The location is a mess it's cluttered and tacky. You can barely get in the door, let alone move around the place. You have to drive thru a McDonalds parking lot to get to the valet. The wait staff was rude(why would you put on ten pounds of make up just to walk around all night with a frown and attitude). We have lived in atlanta all of our lives and we would not recommend this place to any one.The food was fast food quality at a star diners price. If you are looking for a nice place to have dinner, a few drinks and fun, please dont waste your time

    avoid like the plague

    Provided by

This place is horribly overarted. We were seated promptly, the menu was decent. Our food took a really long time. Wasn't anything special, we wondered how this place was well regaurded? Why? When I got a to go box for some food the manager crammed a lot of food in a little box. I then asked for a larger box she said why? I said cause my food almost flowing out of this one. She said ""oh"". I said"" I may not have the Rolls Royce but i prefer it all over my car. I am not wasteful and am more environmental then most, but to be questioned by her after the incredibly pisspoor service we recieved was astounding. This place only hires females and most need a training in how to serve a table. Most were looking around for their server from what we could see. Most were unattractive, so it was our guess this place certainley was geting by on an ""Eye candy"" factor. If you have taste dont dine here you will be sorely dissapointed. If you are into Jimmy Buffet and dig sports all around you and have never been accused of having taste this is your place. If you expect nothing but to open your walet cause u want buckets of seafoood (the Kernel's cousin a la seafood) go 4 it .

Best Seafood and drinks in south Atlanta - Great Atmosphere

    Provided by

My wife and I go here at least twice a month for 2 buckets of snow crab legs and drinks. (The seafood platter is good too!!!) Most crowded on Friday and Saturday nights but worth the wait. We always end up meeting someone new since half the crowd are people in town on business that are staying at one of the airport hotels or layovers who got stuck and needed somewhere to eat! If you go on Friday's, sit at the bar and ask for Kent! All the bartenders make great drinks and the food is always good. Don't forget to park across the street or use the valet in back.

    Not worth the hype

Went here as it seemed to be a popular place. Food was lackluster. I've never been a big fan of red lobster, but save your money and go there instead.

Run as fast away as possible, lest you catch something.

    Provided by

I went here last year because someone who had moved here from another state (let's say state of Confusion) raved about it. I took one of my friends and was expecting something at least decent. We were both scared to sit in this place, let alone eat the food. It looked like it had not been cleaned in over two decades. We were both still trying to give it a shot thinking maybe the food was better than the atmosphere. My friend, a guy who was raised in the sticks, was scared to order anything...but went with the ""safe"" chicken fingers. We went somewhere else to eat. I would prefer to go to a stand on the side of the road instead of this place. The service was sub par. It seemed like the longest hour of my life.

    Incredible experience!!

    Provided by

We went today after reading the reviews and were overly cautious because of several poor reviews. HOWEVER, we were very pleasantly surprised. The service was great (couldn't have asked for a more attentive waitress) and the food was delicious!!!!! The steamed combo bucket was well worth the $26 and was a HUGE portion! We did arrive early (4pm) due to the reviews and had no wait! Get there early and you will do fine. They served the coldest beer I've had in years! It was great overall!!!!!

Fun place and good food where everyone knows your name

    Provided by

Spondivits is not Red Lobster, Outback, or any other similar chain. It is primarily a bar that also serves really good seafood. The drinks are not watered down, and the servings are ample. It is true that it is cowded alot, and it is true that the wait times can be a little long. But, why is that? Because it is good! The clam chowder is awesome. The shrimp, snow crab legs, and king crab legs are wonderful and worth the money. Seafood and drinks are expensive by nature. If you are cheap, don't go because you wouldn't enjoy any other good seafood place, either. And, to the other post - Progressive is a car insurance company, and not a soup company. That would be Progresso.\r \r I have not had any of the steaks or hamburgers. I go there for the seafood, and I will cook my own steaks and hamburgers at home. Enjoy!

    TERRIBLE SERVICE, OVERPRICED FOOD

    Provided by

I would not recommend this restauraunt if good service is important and the food is very, very overpriced for the portions received. My experience with Management when there has been a problem is deplorable. There are too many restaurants in the Atlanta area that not only offers good food but good service that goes with it. This restaurant is not deserving of the volume of business it receives.
