Fillings
For years, silver fillings or amalgams were used to restore teeth that had sustained minimal decay or small fractures. Today, patients are electing tooth-colored fillings to improve esthetics, replace amalgam fillings that have failed, and to address their concerns about the mercury content of metal fillings. Advances in composite resins allow for tooth-colored fillings that serve the same purpose as the metal fillings and are virtually undetectable. The cost for tooth-colored restorations is relatively the same as that for metal fillings.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They are an ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility. As a cosmetic dental procedure, dental veneers create a brighter, whiter smile composed of more perfectly aligned and shapely teeth. Veneers are sometimes placed for cosmetic reasons alone, rather than for necessary health purposes. The translucent quality of today’s porcelain veneers provides a more natural look than what has been available to past generations. This allows a beautiful and natural looking smile. Porcelain material is a perfect solution for the demands of your teeth.
Crowns
Tooth-colored inlays and onlays are durable, non-metallic restorations used to replace large metallic fillings and to restore fractured or decayed tooth structure. Inlays and onlays are nearly indiscernible from natural teeth. They are less costly alternatives to full crowns and are more conservative since more tooth structure can be preserved.
Bridges
A fixed bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by using the adjacent teeth for support. A fixed bridge is permanently cemented to the supporting teeth while a removable bridge hooks to the adjacent teeth and must be removed for cleaning. Three appointments are required to complete the fixed bridge. During the first appointment your dentist will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap. Since the bridge must be fabricated very precisely to ensure correct bite and to match the opposing tooth, impressions of the teeth are made and sent to our dental laboratory. During the second appointment, a diagnostic waxing of the bridge is tried-in and any required modifications are communicated to the technician. Your dentist seats a temporary bridge to be worn while the permanent bridge is being fabricated. During the third appointment, the temporary bridge is removed and the fixed bridge is permanently cemented to the prepared teeth. This appointment rarely requires anesthesia and the patient can function with the prosthesis immediately.
Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
Crowns or caps are indicated when a tooth has fractured, suffered extensive decay, lost a large filling or undergone root canal treatment. A crown restores tooth strength and natural appearance. Restoring a tooth with a crown is less costly than having to replace the tooth if it is lost. Crowns may be composed of tooth-colored ceramic (metal free), tooth-colored ceramic over precious metal, or all gold. The option selected will depend on the location of the specific teeth. Gold or precious metal over ceramic are preferred on back teeth where strength is important, and all ceramic crowns are preferred on teeth where esthetics are a priority.

Dentures
A complete denture is a removable appliance for replacement of all upper or lower teeth. The denture is supported by the patients remaining gum ridge and its retention and comfort depends on the amount of ridge left, muscles, tongue, saliva and patient adaptability. Dentures designed by Smile Midtown provides a beautiful and more youthful smile that restores much of the patients chewing ability. If a patient has lost, or is losing, all of his or her teeth, complete upper and lower dentures are the lowest cost tooth replacement option. Upper dentures are usually easier to get accustomed to than lower dentures. The disadvantages of dentures are continued bone loss over time that may decrease their stability and retention, less than optimal chewing ability and the inconvenience of daily removal for maintenance.
Overdentures
For completely edentulous patients (patients missing all of their upper or lower teeth), two implant options are available: (1) an i mplant bridge as described above or (2) an implant overdenture. With either treatment option designed by your denist, you will receive a beautiful and more youthful smile, nearly indistinguishable from natural teeth. During your initial consultation appointment, your dentist will explain each option, including the advantages and disadvantages and the associated fees. The patients selection between a removable implant overdenture and fixed implant bridge is often based on cost, a patients existing anatomy and/or personal preference.
