My hair has been chemical-free since June 2000 and have been “Happily Nappy” ever since. Despite my love for my natural, I sometimes desired a temporary change where I could wear my hair in a “straightened” style – all the while leaving my natural texture unaltered. I went to a couple of hair “stylists” and got some very disappointing results – hair that was “straightened”, but look dry, dull, and lifeless. I had all but given up on the notion until a good friend of mine recommended Portia’s services. I decided to take the plunge once again and see what she was about. At the time, I was also transitioning my daughter’s hair away from Creamy Crack (I know….what in the WORLD was I thinking putting that stuff in her hair in the FIRST place). The resulting look and feel of both our hair (mine fully natural, my daughter’s “transitioning” and in-between) was PHENOMENAL. My hair type typically has a difficult time not sucking up all of the moisture in the air and “reverting”. After Portia’s skilled hands, my hair was having NONE of that. I had even gone through two “misty” days without a hitch. On the 10th day after my “silk-out”, my hair still looked so jazzy, I snapped a photo of it and texted it to family and friends. Unfortunately, I generally don’t worry much about umbrellas since I just let my natural hair do what it does. This umbrella-neglect is the ONLY reason my style didn’t last more than 10 days - right after I snapped my picture, I got caught in a full-fledged rainstorm heading home. The health and thickness of my daughter’s transitioning hair shined through after Portia did her magic. After our first, post-Portia at-home “wash-n-twist”, my daughter’s hair was more manageable with less tangles and discomfort. My hair (thankfully) coiled right back up into its normal watch spring-sized pattern allowing me to return to my every day wash-n-twist routine – only this time with added shine, better twist memory, and WAY more movement (woohoo!). As an added benefit, the knowledge that Portia imparted to me during our visit on how to care for both my daughter’s and my hair helped me to not only explore more techniques for natural styles at home, but also helped me to fully transition my daughter’s hair to its current, healthy, 100% natural state. Fellow BeautySeeker, know this: if you are transitioning from relaxer, Portia’s techniques and training can help you become more comfortable with the natural state of your burgeoning crown of glory; if you are already a full-fledged 100% “natural” girl who feels uncomfortable with the idea of straightening your locks, Portia will remind you of the shear versatility your hair affords and help you divine your inner Hair Diva – without the weave, without the relaxer, and without disturbing your natural coils. Two snaps and a twirl, Portia!

My sister recommended Cynthia to me some years ago. She told me..."Cynthia's great Rick. She'll make you look like a star," which is just what I needed to hear. I was living and working in Las Vegas at the time and my look was important to my business, so I gave Cynthia a try. Cynthia listened (actually listened) to my concerns about how I felt I needed my hair to look and was able to give me a style that worked in the boardroom in the daytime and on stage at night - that perfect balance that, believe it or not, was a real challenge to find in Las Vegas. At that time, in the early nineties, I had to be in Georgia a lot, so it was only natural that I would use Cynthia but after several seasons of going to her (between salons in ' Vegas) I realized no one I had used since the seventies had done as good a job as Cynthia was doing now. I began arranging my trips to Atlanta based on her schedule as much as mine...yes I am vain about my looks, obviously. Is she expensive? Compared to what? The Hair Force chain, a $5 nightmare? The ditz down at Neiman-Marcus? Please! She might be a little pricey, but she beats all the competition in her neighborhood. Is she inconvenient? Well, for me she is - very. I now live in back in the south, but not Georgia, and I still jump through hoops to get in her chair...because I know when I get out of that chair my hair will look exactly how I want it to look. I am rarely (never) on stage anymore but I still have to go to the board meetings. When Cynthia is done with my hair I am ready to take on the world...because I know I have the best haircut in the world. That's how I feel and Cynthia neither asked for, nor paid for this review. I just wanted to let everyone know how happy I am to have her as part of my staff.
This is really an exceptional salon. Every aspect is top quality. The owners of the salon seem to very picky whom they hire. The stylists have been trained by the best of the best (Some stylists are from other major salons and trained all over the world and nationwide.), as well as all the employees are just exceptional. My colorist (Sorry, not up their proper name.) was fantastic, too. There backgrounds are so interesting to hear about. My stylist travels to shows all over the world. I would let anyone do my hair their, even though I have my "guy". The whole team works together, customer service is top notch. If you want the best, please give DASS a try. I travel 3 - 4 hours to have my hair done at DASS and I could choose to go to any city or another Salon in Atlanta but I will never go anywhere but Dass. I have never used their Spa, but I plan to do so soon. Did I mention I get pampered there? I love that. That is their level of service for everyone. At least go by and tour their Salon. My stylist is at the Lenox location, however, each Salon is the same level of service. When it comes to my hair, price does not matter, however, their prices are lower than what I thought they would be. So, don't stop by because you may think is "too much," I promise you will be very pleased. Dass has their own line of products that are also exceptional. I am not sure of the Dass history, but I believe they train their hair experts, on top of they're training, as well. They most do something, because they bring in people and they business is a well oiled machine. Perfect. I hope you have a memorable experience! Highest Regards, Minnie Barnhill - Mynatt
