General Info:
Dr. Laurel started her practice as Asheville Veterinary House Calls in 1996 with the primary goal of offering gentle conventional and holistic veterinary care and examining each animal companion in their home environment. Her growing interest in holistic medicine inspired her to attend courses in Clinical Kinesiology, Craniosacral Therapy, NAET allergy elimination technique, chiropractic care and acupuncture. She also discovered in herself something beyond her training and experience as a licensed and qualified veterinarian. Her intuitive connection with the companion animals she treated grew and matured, and her practice evolved to include Sunvet Check-ins™ intuitive phone sessions. In 2003, she decided to focus her energy in an office, Sunvet Animal Wellness Clinic, so she could devote more time to being with each animal, acknowledging their individual needs and their connectedness to their human family. At Sunvet, we understand that your animal friend’s health often relates to more than just the physical. Animals are very sensitive and connected to their humans, and their health and behaviors often relate to your relationship with them. Every animal deserves to be heard and acknowledged as an individual. Often, in the conventional veterinary world, a patient is looked at and attended to as a group of physical symptoms. At Sunvet Animal Wellness Clinic, after assessing your animal friend physically, Dr Laurel taps into your friend’s emotional and spiritual wisdom, leading her to a truly holistic diagnosis and treatment plan. At Sunvet, We believe that specific animals and their people are together to learn about themselves — physically, emotionally and spiritually — through their interactions. We find that blending the best of conventional and alternative veterinary medicine creates well-being for our animal friends. We strive for the perfect balance of wellness care, in the form of physical exams, emotional check-ins, nutritional counseling, supplemental support and bodywork. Each patient entering our care is a gift to the world, deserving to receive the best attention and to be honored, marvelled at and enjoyed. As a veterinarian, Dr. Laurel assesses the physical diseases of each of her animal patients. As a holistic veterinarian, she expands her scope to open-hearted discovery of possibilities beyond standard physical assessments, including uncovering contributing mental, emotional or spiritual factors. At Sunvet Animal Wellness Clinic, we’re much more than a holistic vet. We offer a unique synergy of conventional, preventative, intuitive and alternative treatments. And, with Sunvet Check-ins™ Phone Sessions and during your regular visits, we work to strengthen the relationship between you and your animal companion, which is the basis of true and lasting healing.

Overall

Sunvet has some sort of following and I don't understand it. They're in their office 3 days/week. Young or old pets, this is insufficient as we quickly learned.

They will try to sell you pills (in our last state, selling pills was how they made their money). I stopped using them and our animal is just fine.

Suggestions were made about what to change because we brought our pet in for a reason. But they NEVER provided guidance as to what to do. Did they have a clue? I don't know.

I know about alternative modalities but you have to first know the patient and owners and have a clue it will be effective. I'm not recommending them and we left a while ago for a vet who is there, has a viable backup other than REACH, and knows their stuff.

I had Dr. Davis come to my hou...

I had Dr. Davis come to my house to euthanize my cat. It was definitely her time, maybe even past her time, and the doctor was very gentle and sweet with her, and with us. My cat hated going to the vet more than anything, and I did not want her last breath to occur in her least favorite place on Earth. Instead I was able to sit with her and pet her while she went to sleep on her favorite chair. It was heartbreaking and I still miss her every day. At the time, I was very happy with the entire staff.

My only issue has been with billing. They do not take Discover, which was how I was planning to pay. Long story short, they did not charge my debit card on the date we agreed on, but waited until two weeks later and then told me my card was declined. I am a business owner, and I understand the frustration of outstanding invoices. But I also respect my clients, and I charge them on the exact date they expect. I've implemented payment policies and automated services which minimize or eliminate any payment issues. It's not difficult or expensive.

Much of the payment issue has been my own fault, and they've been patient and kind.
But given the service for which I'm paying -- euthanizing my best friend and companion of 13.5 years -- it would be nice if they were a little more on top of it from the beginning.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Davis to someone with a finicky pet, especially if you prefer to be right by his/her side while they pass. I would just make sure you take care of payment in full and as soon as possible, so that when your pet is gone, all you have to worry about is grieving and healing.

Dr. Davis is a warm, compassionate veterinarian. Her gift of animal communication, along with the alternative treatment modalities she uses, make her an awesome practitioner. In response to the previous review, she believes fully in the information she receives and is not afraid to share it, even if it is painful to hear. Her goal is the most appropriate care for our animals, and to honor their wishes.
She has treated our Shih Tzu with NAET (Nambutdripad Allergy elimination treatment), which has been an amazing transformation as she was allergic to many, many things. She also helped us to know when our Lhasa was ready to pass back to Spirit and she came to our home so he could pass at home, surrounded by family, not in a strange place. For that gift, I cannot thank her enough.
She is a delightful lady and and a dear soul. We will always be patients in her practice.

Dr. Davis is a beautiful soul ...

Dr Davis is a beautiful soul and I would recommend her to anyone who believes that animals are an emotional and conscious part of this world in which we live.

I called upon Dr. Davis to assist me at the end of my boy's life. He was a 14-yr Collie mix who reached the point of being unable to walk. When the dreaded yet necessary day came, I called her office in the morning and she fit us into her schedule that very day - and she came to us. We were able to handle the event in the comfort and loving surroundings of our own home. I am eternally grateful for this.

Besides the logistics, however, Dr. Davis has a very special, conscious connection to animals and it gives her the ability to really communicate with a loved one at the most crucial moment, thereby making it just a bit more OK for everyone involved.

Her demeanor and presence are calming, loving and sincere. I only wish I had met her sooner.

Thank you Dr. Davis, you are wonderful.

Cynthia-

P.S. the ladies who answer the phone in her office are very sweet.

I was enchanted when I first m...

I was enchanted when I first met Dr. Davis, and recommended her highly. She is a talented psychic medium, though apparently uninterested in more complicated medical cases than the average vaccination and minor illness categories. I must admit that it seems she pays much closer attention to her pendulum and Guides than she does to the medical aspect of her practice, and I was appalled at her utter lack of bedside manner, suggesting that I put my dog to sleep for a neurological abnormality that is not only under control, but improving rapidly. The dog is not dangerous to humans in anyway and has never seriously wounded another animal- she is not AT ALL a candidate for euthanasia by anyone's professional standard- but Dr. Davis' Guides told her she should suggest this to me, so despite that i had just told her i was having a really hard day, she brought up euthanasia as if it were actually a reasonable consideration.
Her assistant Karen is awesome, and the homeopathic supplements Dr. Davis provides with vaccines are wonderful. She is obviously very holistic, and seems to avoid medicating animals unnecessarily.
If you really need nothing more than very basic animal care and are prepared to be dealt with slightly insensitively at times, then this is a fine place to bring your pets-
but I forewarn you that if your animals require anything beyond the basics, you're better off somewhere else.
