In addition to pizza, Marco's offers a full menu of Italian favorites including salads, pastas, sandwiches, calzones, and strombolis. Awards & Amenities: Marco's Pizzeria has been voted the Best Pizzeria in Western North Carolina by readers of the Mountain Express (2003 - 2007) and the Citizen Times (2003 - 2007.).
An authentic NY Pizzeria! Salads are abundant and can easily feed two persons. Pizzas are delish, my most favorite is there white pie with extra mozz. Desserts are a must! Either a homemade whoopie pie or a divine cannoli (the only place in Asheville who makes them the proper way). A very friendly atmosphere. We simply love to go.
While I appreciate the use of fresh mozarella, the crust was altogether way too salty. This is coming from someone who loves salty food in general. I can't believe that their pizza crust is always so salty; I'm hoping that what we ate was a mistake, that the cooks had accidentally added too much salt to this one batch of dough. I couldn't even finish the crusts because they were just way too salty. The sauce was okay, but nothing great. Not much flavor to the sauce. A fresh and succulent pizza sauce is so easy to make with fresh crushed tomatoes, crushed garlic, olive oil, fresh basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. However, this sauce just didn't satisfy. I applaud the restaurant's idea of making a fresh, simple pizza, but this was altogether a disappointment. The best pizzas I've ever had were in Paris near Montmartre at ""Pizza a Emporter"" and in Estero, FL at Zaza's Serious Pizza. Won't be going back to Marco's.
Marco's is absolutely the BEST pizza in Asheville! The fresh mozzarella cheese makes all the difference, I also love the small pieces of basil on the top. The sauce is not too thin, not too thick! The restaurant on Merrimon is so cute, I love to eat in or carry out.
