Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of diseases that damage the eye’s optic nerve and can result in vision loss and blindness. However, with early detection and treatment, you can often protect your eyes against serious vision loss.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration, or age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is a disease that destroys your sharp, central vision, and causes trouble discerning colors. You need central vision to see objects clearly and to do tasks such as reading and driving. Regular comprehensive eye exams can detect macular degeneration before the disease causes vision loss. Treatment can slow vision loss. It does not restore vision.
Laser Eye Surgery
Champion Eye Center offers thorough and specific pre-surgical consultations. LASIK/PRK surgery uses laser energy to reshape the cornea for better eyesight. During your pre-surgical consultation, your eye doctor will perform a series of tests to determine whether or not you are a candidate. This is not the same as a comprehensive eye examination. A pre-surgical consultation is required to ensure ideal candidacy for all patients, and should be performed by a trusted eye doctor
Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. It interferes with light passing through the eye to the retina. Aging and other factors cause proteins in the eye’s lens to clump together forming these cloudy areas.
Eye Exam
Dr. Jacobs will check the health of your eyes with a comprehensive eye exam, as well as provide you with the best options in glasses and contact lenses to meet your individual vision needs. We will coach you on the most effective ways to protect the health of your eyes. Should you have an eye emergency or infection, we will get you in to see a doctor right away. The high resolution Cirrus OCT is the newest form of ocular tissue scanning technology. This instrument is an effective ‘optical ultrasound’, imaging reflections from within tissue to provide cross-sectional images. This allows us to view the tissues of the eye under magnification and in amazing detail. This instrument is an effective resource available to your doctor, often enabling them to find ocular diseases much sooner than can be seen by regular eye examinations. The OCT can be critical in diagnosing and managing macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and ocular tumors.
