Asheville Parks and Recreation Department provides diverse cultural and recreational facilities and programs. It maintains community centers, greenways and more than 50 public parks for adults and senior citizens. The department also organizes various athletic activities that include volleyball, softball, football and basketball. Additionally, it offers an after-school program that provides licensed child care, supervised recreation and enrichment activities to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Asheville Parks and Recreation Department also maintains various recreational centers that provide children with fitness, travel, sports, cultural art and special summer programs. The department is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.
