Primary Care
Dr. Shah joined Ashburn Pediatrics in August 2007, after completing her pediatric internship and residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. She finished her undergraduate education at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and attended medical school at University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. She is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics. She chose to practice primary care pediatrics because she enjoys preventative medicine. Her professional special interests include working with adolescents and treating asthmatic patients. Dr. Shah lives with her husband, three girls and dog in Ashburn, VA. For fun, she likes to hike, travel, and go wine-tasting.
Emergency Care
When to seek medical help: Please call our office or the on call service if your child’s symptoms are not improving or are worsening over the next several hours so that we can further guide you. If your child’s dehydration is severe and you cannot get enough fluid into your child orally, your child will likely need to go to the emergency room for IV rehydration. In addition, you should go straight to the emergency room if you notice blood or bile in your child’s vomit.

A pre-travel appointment is a great opportunity to make sure that the children are up to date with routine immunizations. The vaccinations may be accelerated for children with imminent departures or those behind in routine immunizations.

Neurology
Theresa Crowley, M.D., has been practicing pediatrics in Loudoun County since 1987. One of the Ashburn Pediatrics partners, she has been with the group since 1996. Dr. Crowley has always had a desire to help her favorite kind of people, children. She holds particular interest in infant development, neurology, and infant & toddler behavior. Dr. Crowley received her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, completing her residency at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter in Norfolk, VA. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She served as Chief of Pediatrics of Loudoun Hospital from 1991-1992, and sat on the Loudoun Hospital CME and Hospital Library Committees in the 1990s. She recertified with the Pediatric Board in 2010.
Autism
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule; (ADOS-2) is a standardized assessment of communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and repetitive behaviors in children. During an ADOS-2 assessment, a specialist interacts directly with the child in social and play activities.
