Dr. Paffel is a member of the local Outagamie County Chapter of the Wisconsin Dental Association and the American Dental Association. Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Therapy can save a tooth whose pulp is diseased or damaged. The pulp is the internal part of the tooth that contains the nerves and blood supply. Pulp problems occur when the tooth is decayed or injured so that the pulp is exposed. The pulp becomes inflamed and then becomes infected with bacteria that enters the pulp. The infection can then spread throughout the pulp and into the root canal. It can get to the tip of the root and then invade the bone. An abscess (a pocket of pus) may form, and left untreated, the infection can cause bone loss and tooth loss. A root canal is done to stop the infection by removing the dead or dying tissue so the tooth can be saved.
