Overall
We sold our home in July 2011 ...

We sold our home in July 2011 and moved into the Camden Reunion Apartments in Apex, NC while we looked for a new home. We signed a 3 month lease for $869 per month and stayed 1 additional month before we were able to close on a new home. The apartment was a two bedroom 2 bath handicapped apartment (the only 1st floor available at the time) of about 850sq ft. The appliances are the cheapest they could find. The dishwasher was very loud and the refrigerator froze everything.

I won't get into the complications of our moving day except to say that it was very stressful because we had to be packed, clear of the old house, and up to Apex before the office closed. This could have been alleviated if the rental agent would have completed ALL of our pre-move in requirements and could have simply left the key in our apartment or given us a key up front. On the night that I was moving in I noticed 2 policemen on bicycles patrolling the complex. I thought that was odd since I had never seen that in an apartment complex before. I was later to find out why.

We completed unloading the truck that night and I parked the tow dolly in front of the apartments and the truck in an area where there were lots of open spaces. The next day when I went to hook up the dolly, it had two flat tires. I had to tow the dolly to the U-Haul place on the flats. I was approached by this young guy when I was out looking at the tires and he started giving me crap about the dolly being parked in front of the apartments. Since none of the parking spaces are assigned, I told him to shove off. His words and this action told me who flattened the dolly tires. The next morning I go out and find two tires on my SUV flattened. I was livid! I went to the office and the rental agent on duty was ambivalent about it. I then asked her about the police patrols and she told me there was no problems in the apartments.

After move in we noticed that the paint in the kitchen was coming off. Upon closer examination we discovered that the cabinets had been painted over without cleaning grease of of them so the paint was just coming off. The cabinets were filthy under the paint. The gym was not secured nor did most of the equipment work. The car wash vacuum cleaner did not work. The only reason that I remark about this is these were touted as wonderful amenities of the complex.

The next thing I noticed was my air conditioning would not cool the apartment down. I notified maintenance and was told by the maintenance guy that they had just worked on the unit. Two weeks later of having a window unit stuck in my window at one of the hottest times of the year the problem was solved.

Then came my next problem. I was told that I had to park my boat and utility trailer in a designated area of the complex where I couldn't see them and there was no security cameras. Long story short, my almost new utility trailer was stolen from the complex. Luckily, my renter's insurance and my car insurance combined was able to replace the trailer.

The apartment complex allows dogs and you really need to watch where you walk. The complex provides doggy stations but I noticed most people do not use them. There is a $300 non refundable charge for pets.

I had a couple of run ins with an upstairs neighbor because he didn't like the smoke from my hibachi grill going up into his apartment.

Last of all I was sent a statement from the apartments after I moved out that didn't really say anything about me owing a bill. But I received an email stating that if I didn't come in an give them $337 more, they would send me to collections. I went and paid it after I found out I owed it.

My total paid in to Camden Reunion was $4,800. For 4 months that comes to $1,200 per month to live in (by far) the worst apartments I have ever lived in. I do hope that this review will help you avoid being involved with a potentially awful rental experience like mine.

I agree!

I agree with pip420! I had a horrible experience! You are drawn there because of it being inexpensive (at first) but oh how that quickly changes once they got you! The office staff are inexperienced and rude! My best advice if you do move there is for when you move out; read the agreement they have you sign regarding the fees associated with the cleanliness of the apartment once you have moved out! DO THE WALK THRU! They will charge you $30 just to wipe down a countertop! I'm not kidding!! Even if you left it sparkling clean! When you try to have a discussion regarding the last final bill, they turn the other way, and if they do not receive your payment, they IMMEDIATELY hand it over to a collections agency, therefore possibly affecting your credit report(s). What a nightmare!!

Overall
Unmentioned fees and poor customer service

If you are thinking about renting an apartment from Camden, DO NOT!! I lived there for over two years and can honestly tell you it was a horrible experience. I was drawn to the offer of no downpayment and cheap monthly rent however this choice to try and save money ended up costing me much more than had I stayed at a much nicer complex. The quality of life there is poor to say the least. While i was there there were constanly cops there either for the groups of people loitering or to issue warrents as well as a particular incident in which there was a man peeping through windows. As for the customer service, even worse. Be aware that they are, no matter what, going to find a reason to charge you for something you never agreed and provide very little help when discussing these issues with management. In fact, if I didnt know better, I would say they purposely hire inexpereinced staff who can't help much more than giving you the standard tour so that you become so frustrated finding the correct person to talk to that you give up and pay their unjustified fees. Believe me when I say there are much better complexes all over the area and avoid this one at all costs b/c they qwould charges you to simply breathe on their property if they could.
