Be warned this company does not want to know when there is a problem. Four days of engine problems meant the RV we rented was extremely slow - it struggled to get up hills and at times we were averaging not even 20 miles an hour. As a result of this we fell completely behind on our schedule and had to miss areas we had planned to stop and visit between Fairbanks and Valdez. We had to get to Valdez as a ferry was booked to Whittier.
GAH had said they would fly an engineer to Fairbanks to fix the RV. They never did they left us struggling for 4 days. Eventually when we were nearly back at Anchorage an engineer was sent who fixed the RV.
On return to Anchorage we visited the manager at the premises. 'Don't worry we will sort it when you drop the RV off' was his response to our lengthy explanation of our complaint. There were many other faults we had with the RV.
So the following week we drop the RV off and the female at reception said the manager was not available and she was aware of the situation. We were offered one days rental of $180 as compensation. My husband walked out in disgust.
BE AWARE Great Alaskan staff confirmed there policy is to get dissatisfied customers off the premises when there is a problem - they offered us a taxi instead of the shuttle pretty quickly - this is not a nice gesture they leave you to pay for it!
If you rent from these and there are no problems then you will be okay but bear in mind the reviews, like mine, that bad rate Great Alaskan Holidays are customers who had a problem and that's when they show their true colours.
You can't get hold of the owner, they respond to emails eventually but don't respond to the concerns raised.
And for the record the RV we had was not that clean. When we stripped the bedding the mattress cover was disgusting - photos to follow
Would not use this company again as their customer service is non existent.
