When you have acute or chronic sinusitis, the mucous membranes of your nose, sinuses and throat become inflamed, possibly from a pre-existing cold or allergies. Swelling obstructs the sinus openings and prevents normal mucus drainage, causing mucus and pressure to build up. Symptoms include: drainage of a thick, yellow or greenish discharge from the nose or down the back of the throat; nasal obstruction or congestion; tenderness and swelling around the eyes, cheeks, nose and forehead; and/or a reduced sense of smell and taste.
Pediatric Care
Ann Clark received her doctorate degree in audiology in 2021 from The University of Southern Mississippi. She completed her year-long clinical externship at ENT Physicians and joined their team in 2021. Her clinical background over the past five years has provided her with extensive experience in comprehensive audiological testing with patients across the age spectrum from pediatrics to geriatrics. She also has dedicated herself to increasing her knowledge and training in vestibular and balance testing as well as hearing amplification. As hearing related technology and research is ever changing, she strives to stay atop of the latest advancements and techniques for treatment and management. She understands that every patient’s hearing loss is as unique as they are; therefore she aims to provide the highest quality patient-centered care to continuously enhance the quality of life in our community one patient at a time.

Many children experience recurrent ear infections or persistent fluid behind the eardrums. This problem can potentially cause serious side effects or long term health issues. If your child has had these persistent ear problems and has seemingly failed medical therapy he or she might need an evaluation by our team of ENT specialists.
Sleep Disorders
These subspecialty areas are allergy, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck, laryngology (throat), otology/neurotology (ears, balance, and tinnitus), pediatric otolaryngology (children), rhinology (nose), and sleep disorders. Children can suffer from chronic sinus infections just like adults. Our team is trained in the treatment of sinusitis in children and is trained in procedures to help with chronic sinus conditions. Most of the time, this only requires medical therapy, but sometimes additional procedures are needed. CT scan is one of the first crucial steps in diagnosing a chronic sinus condition. This procedure is painless and is done in the office; therefore, you will know the extent of your child’s sinus problems the same day without ever having to leave the comfort of our office. Sinus surgery can be done on children if treatment with medications has failed and the doctor feels that it is necessary. Sinus surgery in children is a limited procedure and much less invasive due to the size and under development of children’s sinus cavities.

Dr. McAuley is a 1982 graduate of Tupelo High School. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Mississippi in 1986. He earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi in 1990. Dr. McAuley completed an internship in general surgery in 1991 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he also completed his otolaryngology residency in 1995. He was an assistant professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson in 1996. Dr. McAuley then obtained his neurotology fellowship at the California Ear Institute at Stanford in 1997.
Otolaryngology
Otolaryngology (pronounced oh/toe/lair/in/goll/oh/jee) is the oldest medical specialty in the United States. Otolaryngologists are physicians trained in the medical and surgical management and treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat (ENT), and related structures of the head and neck. They are commonly referred to as ENT physicians.
Reconstructive Surgery
The nose—About 35 million people develop chronic sinusitis each year, making it one of the most common health complaints in America. Care of the nasal cavity and sinuses is one of the primary skills of otolaryngologists. Problems in the nasal area include allergies, smell disorders, polyps, and nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum. The throat— Communicating (speech and singing) and eating a meal all involve this vital area. Specific to otolaryngologists is expertise in managing diseases of the throat, larynx (voice box), and the upper aero-digestive tract or esophagus, including voice and swallowing disorders. The head and neck—This area of the body includes the important functions of sight, smell, hearing, and the appearance of the face. In the head and neck area, otolaryngologists are trained to treat infections, benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) tumors, facial trauma, and deformities of the face. They perform both cosmetic plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Otoplasty is a surgical reshaping of the outer ear to correct or reconstruct deformities and is performed by an ENT Specialist. Otoplasty is more commonly performed during childhood. They are like calluses on the hands and feet that come from excessive abrasive forces. Vocal nodules often lead to a voice that is of a raspy quality. In a dinger, they may lead to a narrowed vocal register, especially in the upper register (in the higher range of your voice).
