Do not come to this place! I had an abscess and desperately needed to have it surgically drained. My doctor, Dr. Robinette said she would contact my insurance company -- Cigna, because without their consent, l would have no insurance coverage. She said she would do it right away. Eight days later, she hadn't done it and when the nurse was called by Virginia Surgery Associates and asked why the clinic hadn't done it, said she was doing it at this juncture. However, she also told the surgery center to mind its own business. Not only is this rude, Alexandria Immediate Care put my life in jeopardy. A week later, they still hadn't sent the request into Cigna. Again the surgery center called Immediate Care. The clinic lied again, saying they sent the referral. The clinic was called a third time and they lied again. It takes three days for the referral to be processed. It didn't get processed for five weeks, which meant that Immediate Care did indeed lie about sending the referral. Dr. Robinette sent me to the emergency room several months earlier, because as a diabetic, I had terrible infections. She knew by stalling on the referral, regarding the abscess, I would be deeply at risk of sickness and even death. It was depraved indifference what this clinic did to me. I tried to sue for malpractice, but lawyers said I would never win. Virginia and Maryland favor doctors over patients. When I finally went into emergency, they had to cut out a portion of my leg. I am maimed for life and had to pay over $13,000 out-of-pocket despite insurance coverage. All of this occurred, because this doctor and her nasty nurse, who hung up on me when I complained, did not do their job. Dr. Pickens makes the experience of going to the doctor's office - not a dread, but - almost a treat. Her office is a pleasant setting. The chairs are comfortable, and the medical assistants are cheerful and courteous. When I go to her office, I always know I am going to get excellent medical treatment and advice. In addition, she demonstrates genuine personal concern in a professional manner. I like that patients are accepted on a walk-in basis such that it gives me added flexibility in deciding when I must arrive at her office. I am glad her office is located in my geographical area and such a capable medical practice is available to me. I always feel good about the quality health care I get from Dr. Pickens - I know I am in good hands.
