Overall
Expertise

The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because of the short notice they were able to see my dog. Actually, I'm assuming it was short notice because they had tons of cages of dogs in the back that would not stop barking the entire time. One star. So, I had to cancel my appointment with Barking Bad because my veterinarian said my Old English Sheepdog needed a haircut as soon as possible (lots of foxtails in my area.) I drop him off to a fairly dirty building with a cluttered inside, and am told they will have him done around a certain time. They end up calling me around 30-40 minutes after the expected time. I arrive and his haircut is incredibly choppy and uneven throughout his entire body, and they cut off his bangs, which should have been parted. His privates still looked dirty. His teeth did not look cleaned (don't know if they even do that.) His nails are chopped and not filed. His feet hair is still clumpy. They did not dry his underbelly completely. They didn't find a minor hotspot he started licking on his paw, probably because he was nervous in a chaotic building in a cage. He usually comes home from groomers happy. And, now he seems depressed. I'm assuming this is because the tiny corridor of a grooming shop was crammed with at least 8 other dogs in cages that would not stop barking. Paid $100 including tip, and will never be returning again.

We asked our wonderful vets at...

We asked our wonderful vets at Aztec Animal Clinic for advice on where to take our lovely collie and pug for a shave. It's starting to warm up already this year and they are getting miserable in the heat. A nice shave should keep them feeling great. Aztec told us about Scot's Dog Grooming, the cute little shop in Nob Hill we've walked past a thousand times. We even live within walking distance! It sounded like music to our ears.

We called to schedule an appointment and had to ask about the order of events since we had never used this business before. It was a little frustrating, but we figured that maybe they had so many repeat and loyal customers that they got ahead of themselves when talking. So, we let that slide as everyone's a little funny on the phone at times. We figured all would be well...

Then, the time came to drop off the dogs. The person who assisted us in the drop off was rude and had no idea we were even scheduled. That's not really the way to start the day, but the groomer came out, remembered our appointment, and we felt comfortable enough to head out for the day.

Afternoon came around and we finally got the call. We were all excited to see how cute our once-fluffy dogs would look and one of us headed up to collect the critters. That's when our experience really dropped. She had the most unsavory customer service interaction she'd ever experienced (and we work in customer service).

The first flaw was that the dogs still had all of their fur. We requested a shave for one and a trim for the other, explicitly, and yet there were our pooches with all their fur. Of course, she noted that this was the opposite of what was expected and was told by both the receptionist and the groomer that this was never what they were told to do (Three people on our end listened in on the conversation. We ordered a trim and a shave. We never even discussed bathing, but figured it might happen just like at human-hair salons.) More and more refusal of any wrongdoing came, but eventually my roommate demanded the shave since our biggest dog is a large border collie with an unseemly amount of black fur. Incensed, my roommate had to help hold down our dog while the groomer rushed him through a hasty trim. Things never should have gone this way. Our pug and collie had been there for several hours, which seemed to be plenty of time for all the necessary grooming treatments.

Somehow, my roommate still paid $75, even though only one of the dogs was groomed appropriately at all. We are shocked at the ill-treatment and lacking customer service. It feels like Scot's Dog Grooming is more of a cutthroat corporate establishment trying to exploit a houseful of young students than a wholesome, community-loved small business like many of our other favorite Nob Hill locations. We were hoping to find a place to take all four of our animals and to recommend to our many animal-loving friends. Clearly, we have not.
