I've recently gotten back into biking and have had a huge amount of retrofitting work done on my 1986 Rockhopper here. I've consistently found this bike shop to be a great resource, here are only a few of the points:
1) They don't upsell nor hardsell. They'll listen to what my needs are then educate me on my options and suggest what they think is appropriate but only from a fact based perspective. Being a newby to modern cycling they could easily have snowed me on buying 200$ brakes when all I needed was something far cheaper, but instead they've consistently guided me towards items that are appropriate for the riding I'm doing and not selling me rockstar stuff that I don't need. In addition they educate me enough so that I can make my own decision and can weigh their suggestion against the other options they provide from an informed position.
2) They have a great attitude. When I started getting into cycling again I ran into a lot of negative attitude at different bike shops. Places where the people acted like talking to me was annoying merely because I wasn't an expert. Also a number of places were so focused on insisting I should buy a new bike instead of retrofitting my old one that it was impossible to objectively discuss retrofitting my old bike with them. The Bike Coop had none of this, they immediately understood what my goals around cycling were as well as the path I wanted to take to get there and have assisted me in every step of the way - both buy guiding and educating me as well as in doing excellent work on my bike.
3) They are extremely knowledgeable. The collective knowledge pool this shop has between all of it's different mechanics and the owner is amazing. They are knowledgeable about not only modern road bike and Mountain Bike technology but also the historical aspects as well - making them ideal to work on my 20 year old bike.
