Lower Valley Energy, founded in 1937 as Lower Valley Power & Light Inc., received its present name in 1999. It is a cooperative firm that provides electricity, natural gas and propane to Star Valley and Jackson homes, businesses, farms and industries. The local energy provider serves consumers in Yellowstone, Afton, Idaho, Kendall and Cora. The company s Two Way Automatic Communication System (TWACS) provides metering and load-controlling capabilities, using existing power lines to send signals out to the electric meter. Lower Valley Energy undertook the Swift Creek Hydro Project outside the Town of Afton and the Hoback Natural Gas Pipeline in 2008. Some of its energy conservation programs include energy audits, home weatherization incentives and residential lighting.
