Press Release

Approaching Its First Anniversary, YELLOWPAGES.COM Secures Leadership Positioning in Local Search Industry

PASADENA, Calif., October 10, 2006

YELLOWPAGES.COM today announced it has surpassed several key milestones as it approaches the end of its first year as a unified Internet Yellow Pages (IYP) and local search site. The company has posted triple-digit traffic growth while building brand awareness, expanding its sales force, inking new content distribution deals, and rolling out site enhancements that have bolstered advertiser value while enriching the user experience.

Recent Successes

Highlights for the company and site, to date, include:

  • Swelling Traffic - Searches on the YELLOWPAGES.COM site, and searches of YELLOWPAGES.COM advertisers on the YELLOWPAGES.COM Network, which includes leading IYP and local search sites that use YELLOWPAGES.COM advertiser content to fulfill consumer searches, have increased more than 150 percent since January 2005.
  • Growing Distribution Network - The company distributes its advertiser content through AOL Yellow Pages, Switchboard, AnyWho, Yahoo! Yellow Pages, and Yahoo! Local, further boosting value for YELLOWPAGES.COM advertisers by exposing their products and services to a larger consumer base. The YELLOWPAGES.COM Network is expected to receive more than 1 billion searches for local information in 2006.
  • Increased Brand Awareness - Following a multi-million dollar advertising campaign launched in January 2006, YELLOWPAGES.COM is the IYP leader in unaided brand awareness among consumers, according to research group Hall & Partners. Brand awareness for YELLOWPAGES.COM among consumers has increased to 61 percent, according to the research, and nearly 75 percent of YELLOWPAGES.COM users are likely to recommend the site to others. The study also revealed that among small businesses surveyed that are advertising online, one-third say they advertise with YELLOWPAGES.COM.
  • Expanded Sales Force - YELLOWPAGES.COM has strengthened its national presence through a feet-on-the-street sales presence in key cities such as Philadelphia, Las Vegas, New York and Boston. Combined with AT&T and BellSouth sales teams in the 22 states in which the companies publish respective print directories, more than 4,000 local representatives now offer YELLOWPAGES.COM products and services. This is a competitive differentiator for YELLOWPAGES.COM and a model not cheaply or easily replicated by national search engines like Google.
  • New Site Enhancements - In April 2006, YELLOWPAGES.COM became the first IYP to offer aerial and bird's eye photo map views with click and drag capabilities, in addition to standard online map views and driving directions. Aerial maps are available for 100 percent of geographies in the United States, and bird's eye view maps are available in more than 100 counties across the country. Also, new personalization tools allow users to access recent search activities, save business listings to a personal profile, make notes for saved listings and even add personal addresses. For example, a user researching landscapers for a home improvement project can record quotes, timetables and general impressions for each business before making a final selection. A user who saves the listing for a hair salon could make a notation that a popular stylist doesn't take appointments for Tuesdays.

"In just ten months, we've established our local search platform as one of the top players in the industry," said Charles Stubbs, CEO of YELLOWPAGES.COM. "We did this by ensuring our efforts pointed back to serving up rich, relevant business information to consumers and a strategic and comprehensive value proposition to advertisers. The focus and hard work of our employees, along with the support of AT&T and BellSouth, have helped us deliver on our initial promise of facilitating a quicker, more meaningful connection between buyers and sellers."

On the Horizon

The future of local search will certainly include applications such as wireless and IPTV. YELLOWPAGES.COM is already represented as a prominent link on handsets for Cingular Wireless, providing subscribers with access to contact information, maps and directions for local businesses. In addition, YELLOWPAGES.COM is working with AT&T on its application for IPTV.

Additional planned site enhancements will build on an existing portfolio of robust functionality that includes a "click to call" feature allowing consumers to initiate free nationwide direct calls from the phone of their choice to selected businesses without dialing their phone. Additionally, YELLOWPAGES.COM will continue to build on its in-depth advertiser content, such as methods of payment, specialty services and hours of operation, which is presented as searchable text to give YELLOWPAGES.COM users more ways to refine results.
