At St. Luke's Hospital, Laborists (trained obstetricians) are in-house 24 hours a day, who can consult with the nurse-midwife regarding complex issues and respond to any emergencies. Dr. Lovelace is almost always on call and would be the most likely physician to provide consultation or emergency care. The best outcomes for mothers and babies, and the highest quality care is achieved when Certified Nurse Midwives and Physicians work together as a team.
Urinary Incontinence
Gynecologic surgery is the other highly-rewarding part of my practice. Child-bearing and normal aging can result in changes to the body that impact activity and health. Issues such as excessive bleeding or urinary incontinence can have a hugely negative impact on quality of life, and sometimes surgery is the best option for regaining health. Undergoing surgery is a big decision, but improvements in technique have simplified recovery for many patients.

Gynecology
Simply put, the differences are minor - both are trained to provide high quality obstetrical care. Nurse midwives work with low-risk clients, while OB-GYN physicians see clients across all pregnancy risk levels. Both our OB providers support clients involvement in the decision making process when it comes to the birthing experience. Studies indicate that births attended by midwives generally have fewer interventions (such as continuous fetal monitoring and epidurals) without impacting outcomes for women and their babies.

My love for Women's Health started in my undergraduate studies when I engaged in a volunteer program at a local hospital, seeing my first birth on Labor & Delivery. I never looked back! I had the unique opportunity to train in both a busy downtown hospital and a military medical facility which afforded me experience in both low + high risk obstetrics and gynecologic surgery in a wide variety of patient populations. Once on my own, I realized there was this whole realm of optimal health and balance that was not being focused on in the conventional medical model and decided to marry conventional and functional medicine. I completed both the Kresser Institute
Endometriosis
Pregnancy
Some pregnancies result in more complex situations like multiple births, a history of complications, health issues for the mother or baby, and so on. I welcome these patients and have years of experience and strong training in all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth.
Labor and Delivery
If bleeding is steady, or if you have pain with bleeding, and you are greater than 20 weeks, GO TO LABOR AND DELIVERY TRIAGE AT ST LUKE’S IMMEDIATELY.

Ultrasound
You will see the nurse first, at around 7 to 8 weeks, then see your provider for the first visit and ultrasound at 8 to 9 weeks.

Hysterectomy
We employ the most modern surgical techniques for treatment of heavy bleeding and incontinence issues, including endometrial ablatation, laparoscopic hysterectomy and pelvic floor repair. These websites may help inform you about options our practice offers.
