Back in 2011, I was going through a separation with my husband. Never having done this before, We asked around for recommendations for a mediator and was blessed to get the name of Gene Barr.
I'll never forget the first words out of his mouth , he said "are you two getting a divorce" our response was "yes " . He then said " well, that's established , now let's focus on the children. " I'll never forget those words and I often use that piece of advice when speaking to anyone that is going through a divorce or separation. Gene wanted to make sure that my children were taken care of . Divorces could be so ugly but With those words, we were able to focus on our children and not other negative feelings.
Dealing with Gene and his help , we were able to have a smooth separation. Gene was always there for both my ex husband and I. He explained everything to each of us so we were comfortable in our decisions. He took his time and his patience so all of us had a great experience in a sad situation.
2017, 6 years later ... I contacted Gene for some help again. I tried hiring him but Gene told me that I was capable of doing what I needed to do , on my own . During my process, he took out of his busy schedule to answer any of my questions and helped steer me in the right direction.
I highly recommend Gene Barr !

I would like to take the time to acknowledge Gene Barr, and how easy he made the divorce process for myself and my ex. We both went to Gene, emotional, overwhelmed and stressed. Gene's professionalism and caring demeanor helped us both through the most difficult time in our lives. He is extremely personable, and makes both parties feel comfortable. He walked us through the process step by step, answering each of our questions thoroughly and respectfully. I highly recommend Gene to anyone who is considering mediation as an option. Divorce mediation will only work out if both parties are on the same page. The thought of a "flat rate" is a nice premise, but will only work if both parties are aggressive enough to work out a plan and a deal that ultimately both will agree to. Otherwise, as in my case, one party will break off and retain their own divorce attorney for litigation and your time, effort, and money will be wasted. What I think would be most helpful if each party of the divorce were pulled aside by the mediator and fully explained that this avenue (mediation) is absolutely the most cost effective way for both parties to save a ton of money on the divorce. Even if through this mediation you both give up more than you thought you should. An aggressive mediator is worth his/her weight in gold as compared to going to trial in a divorce.

If you hire Gene Barr you are hiring your wife's attorney. Be very careful if yor wife does not work. He recommended I pay child support past 21 and maintenance amount she she can save $1000 month without working. My wife wanted this till age 65. I call it a pension.

Gene Barr was a total professional, he helped me (and the ex wife) with the million and one questions & concerns we had. When I first met Gene Barr he made me feel at ease especially with concerns I had for my daughters well being. Thanks to Gene Barr I am now an extremely happy re-married man (yes, I did it again) because without him & his services I wouldn't have been able to be happy! I always recommend Gene Barr to my friends! Also the woman who works in his office , Teresa, is also very sweet & helpful!

My family could not have made it through the Divorce process without the extensive knowledge , and compassionate guidance of Gene Barr every step of the way. His beliefs of trying to move the family forward through this difficult time in a way that is fair to all was priceless. Instead of the Divorce process ripping my family apart, with Genes help, we were able to successfully move on . We decided to mediate our divorce to save time, money and most importantly, reduce the emotional impact the divorce would have on our children. It was understandably a very upsetting, stressful time for our family so we wanted an attorney who understood that protecting our children was our number one priority. Gene’s professionalism, empathy and guidance helped our family through this very difficult time. I walked away from our first meeting with Gene with a sense of calm - knowing that he understood, and that everything was going to be ok.
