I have been going to Thien Hong for about 20 years now. When I started going there as a child, they only had eight small tables. Since that time, they have expanded twice, and now have a very popular establishment. Their Pepper-salted squid is a MUST TRY!!!! I have never gone their without getting it. Now, I have had calamari a LOT of different places, from upscale restaurants and benefits, to weddings and buffets, small restaurants and national chains... And let me tell you that I have never had any with the wonderful flavor that Thien Hong carries. They fry the calamari in a batter with seasonings in it, then almost toss it with sauteed onions, and serve it. Absolutely wonderful!!!!!!!!!! Another family favorite for us, is the black bean clam dish. Again, the rating is in the flavor!!! Such a wonderful, flavorful blend of flavors, and I haven't found it beat... The downsides to this company are, in my opinion, outweighed by the wonderful food, but for the sake of fairness, I will list them anyway. The parking is scarce, as they have a small lot on both sides to the building, but they only hold about 20 cars combined. There is street parking available on the main road, but also the little side streets. The side streets tend to be narrow, so keep that in mind. They do not take reservations, but do their best to get you seated as quickly as possible. Another downside is that since it is owner operated, they sometimes take vacations and you will find an empty parking lot when you pull up. But, the inconvenience of these downsides are not enough to keep me away. I will continue to visit this establishment for another 20 years to come!!!
Rainbow Dragon is an odd place to have lunch. You are not sure what your going to get when you approach the building. It looks a little run down from the outside, and the broken 'shell phone' in the entrance way doesn't help either. The building was apparently converted from a former seafood restaurant. The look of the wandering mariner is still present. From the captain's wheel chandeliers, the porthole windows in the restroom, to the conciliatory stuffed marlin hanging on the wall. A strange atmosphere for Chinese/Szechuan cuisine, but the food is really good. The tea is hot, the service is prompt, and the selection is adequate. The portions that you get at the Dragon are well above the norm, and often you will leave with a container for dinner that night. You can be in and out in about a half an hour. Good food, good portions, and good prices. Oh, if that marlin could only talk, what tales it could tell. Yar!
This is a place of fine hospitallity with a waiter always on hand and food prepared in best timing. The restraunt is very spacious and can accomandate large parties and the location is easy to find and easy to park and walk to. The food is delicous, with much attention toward tradition presentation. And the cost of such excellent service and delicous dishes, is much more humble than what it could be. It is a wonderful place for families. And because of its location close to two theatres and museums, and its quiet atmosphere, it is an excellent choice for an elegant evening out. This is just a honest patron's report. Oh and by the way try anything with shrimp in it~ top quality and ginormus prawns! I am a receptionist at a hospital out in Gresham and have no ties to any owner or employee of this restraunt.
