I have been going to A & A Barber Shop for my haircuts and for my childrens' haircuts for over five years. We all always get our hair cut just the way we want it, and enjoy talking to Kadhim, the owner of the shop. My son has super thick and super curly hair, not the easiest to work with, yet he always gets a very nice cut. My daughter's is nearly straight, and she is very concerned with looking just so, and Kadhim gives her really great cuts that look like they were done in a beauty salon and cost a mint. She is always pleased. Kadhim does a fine job with my hair too, and it is not easy to work with because it is very thick and between a wave and a curl. I've had a lot of mediocre haircuts that cost much more. I am always pleased with the cuts I get here, as well as the service, the cost and the positive attitude.
I moved here 8 years ago from Memphis, TN with my two half Irish, half African American boys. It took a year to find a decent barber shop who could cut their hair... and that was just cut it with some clippers... forget a clean line around their heads. Then, I found a spot in Cave Creek that did a better job, but that was quite a drive from Awahtukee! I have finally found an excellent (and very resonably priced) barber shop that is well worth the drive at Zev's New York. I have been taking my boys there now for two years and they always do an excellent job. They are also open on Sundays (I think until 4pm) which is so convenient.
After a good two to three years of looking for a new stylist after the one I had gone to for years retired, I tried Cutters Cottage at the recommendation of a friend. I was given an appointment with Lisa. I finally felt that I had found someone I could work with. I like my hair cut really short and she kept going shorter for me until we got there. I've had numerous compliments both from people I know and from complete strangers, like the lady who yelled "Your hair looks so good" across the plaza in Santa Fe. The shop is really comfortable and laid back and I enjoy the time I spend there.
