As a Chinese Food aficionado, I think Red Pepper is the best little hole in the wall chinese restaurant in Clifton. I've been going there since they has a real hole in the wall restaurant further down McMillian Ave by the old Yacht Club. You can eat lunch for under $5 and dinner for under $8 and the portions are decent. A few Christmases ago, I had them make me mass portions of 3 different dishes and served it to all my guests who raved about the food. My favorite: Hunan Double with Chicken and Shrimp, although the shrimp is small, it's a tasty dish. If you want a nice romantic dinner or gourmet chinese, this is not the place, but its perfect for a cheap meal with fast service. For what it is, I give, it 5 stars!
If you didn't already know this, Song Long has a partnership with Jean Robert in the restaurant Pho Paris. Song Long gives you the opportunity to enjoy some of the inspiration for that Fusion restaurant at a pittance of the price of Pho Paris. Song Long has excellent food - try one of the bowl soup lunches or the Bun Salad. The problem is the restaurant itself. The decor is groaningly tacky - hanging red lanterns and fishtanks. Cleanliness is also an issue. The restaurant is always a bit dirty - not nasty or necessarily unsanitary. The value is insanely wonderful and certainly leads this writer to overlook the decor and attention to cleanliness.
Blue Gibbon has everything you need - affordable tasty food in a clean restaurant. Thankfully, this is one of the few asian restaurants that doesn't decorate out of the Lillian Vernon catalog. No hanging red lanterns or tacky placemats with the chinese astrology signs. Just amazingly inexpensive good food. Lunch is the best bargain in town - you can get soup and an entree for around $6. They offer Vietnamese and Singapore inspired dishes on their lunch menu. Be prepared to wait for a table. Their large dining room fills quickly!
