My wife and I have been savoring Danny's Hoagies since we were first dating and would go to the BP location and watch the drive in movie which was located next door while we enjoyed what up until last nightwas the best hoagies we had ever eaten anywhere!!! We ordered 2 italian hoagies from the Rt 51 location last night (Saturday-Nov 28, 2009) after shopping and brought them home. My wife was the first to notice that the bun was very hard to the point of being painful to bite and chew. Mine as well was overdone in the bun department and even though not up to Danny's usual standards we were hungry and ate most of them anyway. However; the more we thought about it, we decided that you folks should know in case your oven(s) are not working properly or perhaps something is wrong with the buns? Best pizza anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoever came up with the idea of baking just the crust and sauce and then adding the cold mozzarella cheese and toppings after is a mastermind!!!!!!! They give you a mountain of cheese and toppings. Slices are square and huge. other items on menu are great too, I love their Hoagies, fries with cheese, popcorn shrimp, and chicken fingers. My kids love their mozzarella sticks. I wish they would branch out and open one in my neighborhood, they would dominate the competition. The only downside is that the dining room is too small for the business they get in the restaurant. They have take out on the other side of the restaurant if you don't want to eat it there. I recommend eating there if you get pizza because by the time you get the pizza home, the cheese melts. It's still great but it's better with the cold cheese on top. I have been going to Vento's since I was a little girl, and am now 61 years old! Vento's has the most wonderful pizza, and sandwiches. When our house, a few doors from Vento's was torn down, some 44 years ago, in the name of re-developement, we moved out to North Hills. About once a month we still pay a visit to Vento's and stock our freezer with pizza. There is a good reason we continue to frequent the store. Not only do they have really wonderful pizza and sandwiches, but when you go in the store you feel like you're with family. If the owner, Big Al, is around, he always makes a point of shaking hands and thanking folks for coming in. I feel they are generous with ingredients and prices are a good value for what you get. For the last few years I have kinda gotten hooked on their white pizza with sliced tomatoes. Try it!! You won't be sorry!! Sally
I was just in Mandys this past week after seeing that they won the best pizza in the north. I have to say that they rightfully won this award. We had a gathering at the home this past weekend and order 7 pizzas...all different and ALL PERFECT. You have to try their winning white pizza....I couldn't eat as much as I wanted since I had to taste the other. They hands down have the best pepperoni and sausage I have ever tasted. As for their almost reuben....it was nearly perfect yet unique. I would recommend their pizzas over any other I have tasted around the burgh and even over some of the best I have tasted in the US while I travel for business. BTW...you should have seen the HUGE pizza they call the Monster...someone came in after me and had to tilt it to fit out the door. Way to go guys....keep up the great quality.
When compared to the big 3... Domino's, Papa John's, and Pizza Hut, Vocelli's holds it's own. Overall taste was good, (especially the Meat Magnifico) but I wouldn't go as far as the slogan "Classic Italian Quality". The dough has a bit of a crunchy taste as if is left out too long, there is always a little bit of grease sitting on top the cheese, and I am not a fan of the chunks of tomato skin found in the sauce. All the toppings were recognizable and tasty with the exception of the steak. I have ordered from several locations and found this to be consistent. The menu can be a bit overwhelming, but has something for everyone. Prices fluctuate from location to location but are generally higher than what you're used to paying. Overall the food is good but not great, I would recommend the chicken as their best topping.
I gotten pizza and hoagies, both are great. The pizza is cooked all the way and not burnt, they have a nice sauce and the cheese it the best I've seen yet, very high quality. They put the right amount of cheese on it too, I hate when they skimp on the cheese or pile it on there. Never had a problem with their pizza, it was always made to my specifications. The hoagies are the great too. I can see myself getting fat off of this food, because it is so good. I don't even know why I should go somewhere else, because I don't think anyone can make it better. Even with all the people in there, I got fast service, I was very impressed. I look forward to coming again.
Lately, I've seen many people walking around at lunchtime with unusually-shaped pizza boxes and wondered where they came from. Now I know...V3 Pizza. I went there with a co-worker for lunch and had to wait in a line that was out the door, but went fairly quickly. You order your pizza (and watch it being made) similar to ordering at Subway...type of bread (including gluten-free), sauce and toppings (before and after cooking). All one price for a flatbread, 8-cut pizza. Additional seating is upstairs...we wished it had more windows for "people-watching". We'll be back for sure.
I have been ordering from R&B's for about 3 years now and being the die hard pizza lover that I am, I believe they are hands down the best in Pittsburgh. I have tried them all, The Yinz Pie and Spinach&Feta Pie are to die for. The staff is wonderfully fast and friendly. The ambience is warm and relaxing. If this was not the case it really would not matter because the pizza is to die for. R&B’s has the freshest ingredients. They do not skimp on anything. So for the best pizza in town at the best price, take a trip to R&B's, you will never be disappointed.
I'm sorry, but when I ordered a white pizza with extra tomato, did you think I said "NO TOMATO"??? When I asked that you separate the hot from the cold stuff, did you think I said, "Put the cucumber and extra cucumber sause in with the gyro, so it will turn into warm soup"????????? When I asked to keep the hot and cold apart, you said, "We always do that",,,,,not. I love the food, you just never get it right, and I'm a really good tipper! For that, you get 3 stars from me, The manager is very smug. I'M UPGRADING TO 4 STARS, BECAUSE THE PIZZA IS SO DARN GOOD!
Napolis is by far the best pizza around. We have been eating here for almost 10 years. They have dinners, pizza, hogies, salads. The Italian and steak Hogie are favorites of mine. And the ranch sause is good too. And the guys are not mean, they have a low tolerance for stupidity. Just have your order together when you call and know where you want it delivered and youll be fine. They don't have time to wait for you decide what you want to eat or where you want it to go. They are busy. So have your $%#* together when you call.
